Well, we've arrived in Austin and it seems like a haven of boozing, music and students. Excellent. Got our first taste of the nightlife last night and it was awesome. I'd heard good things about it and it didn't disappoint. The fun is centred around 6th St, which is wall-to-wall bars with loads of live music. Went into one and ended up staying for ages getting drinks bought for us and having Beatles, Rolling Stones and Elton John songs dedicated to us. The University of Texas is here and there are thousands of students out on the lash after finishing their exams. Which is nice. It doesn't feel like Texas at all, which is refreshing after all the yeehah-ing of the last few days. The only problem with this place is the ridiculous heat. Hiked to the supermarket at 6pm yesterday and it was still sweltering - think it was still 30C plus. Christ I'm sweating a lot on this trip! The hostel - Hostel International Austin - is an amazing location overlooking the lake. Feels a bit like a hippie commune or health spa - very chilled out. Think we might hit the lake today and do some rowing, armed with some factor 50 sunscreen. High Five!
