Hello blog fans!! It's been a while, I know, but I've been dead busy. It's so good to get the chance to do an update (I think the last one was on Tuesday - whoops!) It's nearly 1am here and I'm writing this from a front room in Alexandria - just outside Washington DC - and everyone else has gone to bed so this shows my commitment to the cause! I've put on two photo albums - one for Niagara Falls and one for DC - so check them both out. Well, where to start? It's been an action-packed few days. Flew from Buffalo early on Wednesday and the flight was pretty terrifying. The plane had PROPELLERS! This I did not like - our window was right by them and I kept looking out of the window expecting to see them grind to a halt. Luckily they didn't, and after much noise, shaking and vibrations we eventually touched down. Thank God for that! We're staying here in Alexandria, which is a really nice area, with Martin's relatives Diane and Sid. They're dead nice and have looked after us loads. Lots of nice food and it's nice being in a normal house (I know, I know, we've only been roughing it for less than a fortnight, but we're not exactly rugged backpackers are we?!) Anyway, we chilled out on the first day before getting back into the sightseeing action. We took a night time drive into DC in the evening and saw the Capitol Building, The Mall and the White House illuminated, which was very impressive. The pics don't really do it justic though. The White House is a lot smaller than you think and you can't really get near enough to it. On Friday Sid took us to the National Air and Space Museum, which was pretty awesome. He works for the government and we saw the plane he's working on - pretty cool, eh! In the evening we took in our first baseball game - the mighty Washington Nationals v the equally mighty New York Mets. It was actually quite fun and a good experience - by the end of it we just about knew which team was which and what was going on. The Nationals, or the Nats as I like to call them, being a die-hard fan, won 4-3 in the end. I think. The stadium was impressive and being able to have a bottle of beer in there was cool, but the players all seemed to be fat useless chumps who couldn't run to save their lives. The games themselves seem quite long and drawn out, and by far the most entertaining stuff happens off the pitch, in the crowd. An angry deaf guy was going around abusing opposition fans while getting drunk. Classic. To top off what was a pretty manly, testosterene-filled day, we stopped into a bar on the way back for a pint and some chili n chips. The perfect day! Today (Saturday) we hit DC proper, and did all the big sights in daylight for the first time. The centre of the city is basically a two-mile straight strip stretching from Capitol Hill to the Lincoln Memorial. In between is The Mall, which is essentially a long strip of grass. It's actually all very impressive, and definitely worth seeing. My personal highlight was looking down from the Lincoln Memorial steps to the Pool of Reflection, as in that famous scene in Forrest Gump. 'I love you Jenny.' Everyone was talking about the same thing and getting the same pics. Quite funny, really. Some bloke called Martin Luther King apparently did a speech there once too. Something to do with 'I Have a Dream.' Who cares?! Forrest Gump baby! We popped back to the White House to say hi again to George W and his cronies, but as I say it was a tad disappointing cos you're so far away. And it's a right tiddler. Also got to see the Declaration of Indpendence, Constitution and Bill of Rights, which was incredible. I was well and truly in history gimp mode. Loads of snotty American kids kept pushing you and peering in. Little b*****s. Pretty knackered again after all of today's walking, but Washington is a very cool place and we're having fun, fun, fun. And that, as they say, is that. Hope that's brought it all up to date. We've decided to fly to Miami next for some sun, sea, and er, sandals. Prob fly down in a couple of days, and then bus it across to the west after that. Hope the plane to Miami hasn't got propellers! Will update sooner next time, love to all. xxxxxxxxxxx PS come on Liverpool in the next leg - they should take a leaf out of the Washignton Nationals' book!
