Our boat from the island today left at 11:00AM so we got up a couple hours before, packed got ready and went for breakfast...
We sat in a hut restaurant not far from our guesthouse and waited 10/15 minutes until we left! Everyone was sat around watching tv, getting on with daily life not bothered about giving us a menu... It really annoys me when they can't be bothered and don't want the custom! And I despise giving them my money so rather than actually going up and asking for service I'd rather leave with my money :)
So we went back to the guesthouse and caught the long-tail boat back to mainland. We saw a river snake just before leaving, it was really long and thin and black! If you've seen the movie Kill Bill, think Black Momba!!! And it slithered its way onto the land to see what we were doing! It was so inquisitive, we were bricking it! Theyre poisonous here and fast, so you can't go near them, you may have been able to hear Annie's screaming from England? ;)
There was a que of travellers waiting by the dock for the taxi boat to arrive, yet we both got on our own private dock and casually strolled downstream without them! I'm not sure why, maybe we paid more but I wasn't complaining, I felt bad but really, I'm evil deep down... See ya later suckers!!!! ;) muhaha...
We had to wait on the mainland for the minibus drivers to sort everyone out... It was so unorganised! Two minivans for 25+ people all going completely opposite directions! Megan was going East to Vietnam, we were going North up to Vientiane, and some were going south to Bangkok! One couple were even going to Hong Kong! God knows how they got on!!
Anyway we were told after half an hour of waiting to walk down the road to another van following another girl... We got to the van which had now already driven off... Great, stranded in god-knows where! Travelling is so much messing around, I wish someone just knew what they were doing!
Just get me to starbucks right now! Get me a venti strawberries and cream frappuccino (easy on the cream) and a large chocolate chip cookie, maybe then I will show some patience! I can only dream of the day when I return to England and I can enjoy a Starbucks!
Sometimes when I get too hot I start to imagine a mirage, I see a huge packet of milk chocolate covered hobnob biscuits with my name written all over it! Then annie gets creeped out by the fact I'm staring at her and licking my lips ;( some kind individual please do what's right, and send me a packet over...? Muchly appreciated!
Anyway the first original minivan that we were told to not get on, came to pick us up! There was no more room so the two guys from the front who run the business had to get out to make room for me and the other girl. Sitting in the middle gave me all of about 2cm of leg space and every pothole meant my head would bang against the roof of the van! I mean, where's my limo??
The polish girl I was sitting next too was telling me stories about her travels of the past six months and said I'd be lucky if I left south east Asia without being in at least two bus crashes! Great! Now hand me a seat belt before I go plummeting through the windscreen! Oh wait! They have no seat belts in Asia! Ten minutes later, we run over a chicken! I'm getting increasingly more anxious!
After the first couple got out of the minivan I got straight in the back to claim that seat next to Megan! After a few hours we arrived at the bus station in Pakse around 1:00pm....
Our night coach left at 7:30pm so we had the day to spend looking around :) we first visited one of two temples nearby, very aesthetically pleasing but I had 0% energy to reach into my pocket to take a photo! Too hot, too hungry, thirsty and carrying my backpack around! We went to eat in a restaurant in the town, we walked 2km im told this is about a mile? I have no idea! Easy to do at home, a voyage to do in Asian humid heat!
We went to eat in a restaurant in the town, it was recommended by lonely planet! I had a pizza and it was disgusting! I ate it all because I was starving! Me and annie then fell asleep at the table after our iced chocolates while Megan read her book! Embarrassing!! :/
When we realised, we left at 5:30! Got overcharged by the waitress, she didn't understand she'd made a mistake, we had to argue with her for ten minutes first! She charged us double!! And wasn't even sorry they were all so miserable!
We Got back to the station at 6:00, we only just missed thunder storm! It went from boiling and sunny to cold dark and wet within 2 minutes! The station has a tin can roof which leaks in every crevice so we still got soaked!
We got on bus at 7:30... It has actual beds! We've seen this on the sleeper trains but never on a bus before! One ticket buys you one half of the bed though so me and annie still had to share a tiny little mattress! It's cosy though and to be honest I like slumming it like this it makes the journey funny!
Got free water and a chocolate waifer on the bus, luxury! Never had this before usually they charge you to sneeze! Went to sleep after an hour or so on top of my bag, so no one can rob me in my sleep! I'm starting to relax a bit on these buses so sleeping was much easier!! :D
