We´ve finally made it Peru. Unfortunately our trip to Chile was shorter than expected and we only visited the northern town of Arica. We had plans to head to Bolivia for a few days but decided the route we would have had to take was not very safe. So instead we decided to hea straight to Peru!
Our last few days in Chile were spent riding bikes along the beach, swimming in the ocean, eating ice cream, getting sunburns (apparently SPF 30 isnt enought down here), and visiting once very cool museum. The museum was home to some of the oldest known mummies in the world (app. 7000 years old) and definately aroused the Archaeologist in Michael. Wé also visited a less thrilling but still cool museum at the cliffs edge of a mountain in town. It was the site of one of the major battles between Chile and Peru in the War of the Pacific...and the view was beautiful.
We took a rickety old train accross the border into Peru which was bumpy but the cheapest way to travel and the train was nothing like either of us had ever been in before! We immeditaely hopped on a bus to Arequipa on which we watched 3 movies, rocked out to Bon Jovi as they were playing a video of one of his concerts, and we also took part in a game of bingo. Yes bus bingo...
We´ll update again soon!
Kristy and Michael.
