Getting up for breakfast of eggs, cheese and radishes in the pouring rain is not something I was looking forward to, but on the way to Select we see a bunch of May beetles (or cock-chafers as Simon finds out they are also called). We head back home afterwards and I write postcards and listen to music whilst the others have a small nap until 11:20. Then Laszlo comes and whisks us away to a nearby town famous for its salt mine and we start work just past the gaudy tourist shops on a new butterfly house nearby. It has been commissioned by Odorheiu's Geographical Society who apparently held a similar venture last year in the Odorheiu museum to astounding success. We meet the president of the Geographical Society who brings us a beer or two to work with, and a Snickers which I forget to eat even though they are my favourite. We level soil around the inside of the building until around 13:00 when Laszlo arranges an impromptu lunch featuring some of the best home-made bread I have ever tasted (we will try our hands at it later in the holiday), it is sort of like a more dense and tasty sour dough. We then work until 15:30, using the long drop toilets in the amazing farm complex opposite when we need them and stroking the friendly little terrier that whines when I leave him.
We get on our way and pass gates decorated with flowers and fir trees. Laszlo explains that this is a tradition where one day a year, the boys in the village will adorn the houses of girls they fancy with these gifts to form a strange but colourful sight. If they're really smitten they might even steal the gate entirely! One the way back to the house we spot a buzzard and once home we use Laszlo's laptop for a few hours to catch up on England happenings and mess around on Youtube for a while, listening to the song about Johnny Depp that Kate has had stuck in her head all holiday. We have dinner at Select and I eat my favourite dinner yet; deep fried pumpkin with butter beans in tomato sauce then perform our supermarket ritual before playing a bit more 'Where On earth?' in the girls' room. Me, Simon and Kate then go to G-Point to make the most of the music festival that is on all week and see another great Serbian folk band.
