I've come to visit Hrad Castle this afternoon which is just on the outskirts of the city centre. You can grab the bus, but the walk to the bottom of the hill where the castle is perched is quite nice. I was lucky enough to have a photography exhibition in one of the main boulevards that I walked up - it's what Slovaks do I think, notice a route that the tourists might take to the castle and stick up something nice on the way. Again, no hard sell, just very pleasant.
So the castle then, to get to the actual castle you have to walk - some of the paths are steep and I would say not suitable for elderly or less able visitors. Am sure they must cater for the disabled, just there was nothing obvious.
Once at the top and the entrance to the castle itself, there is a large courtyard overlooking the Danube so you can get some good scenic pictures from there. A fascinating landmark they have the other side of the Danube is what the call the UFO tower which is at the end of what's known as the flying saucer bridge. By all accounts there is a 360 degrees restaurant at the top so that should be pretty spectacular as it's about 100meters high. I'll check it out later today.
The castle if I was honest, didn't rock my boat, the Roman Ruins were a bit of a nothing as well sadly. It was worth the walk to the top because I've been proper unhealthy this week so a bit of exercise doesn't do any harm. Also and on that theme, they have a lovely terrace café overlooking Bratislava (coffee and cake €5) and it's proper chilled out and relaxing up there so if you go to the castle, make an effort to sit on the terrace with a coffee as well.
