Ok so cosmetically parts of Bratislava are not easy on the eye, that's a given. But the people here (taxi drivers aside) are warm, friendly and lovely.
I've walked into town for a bit of dinner, sure it's quite quiet, it is only a small place so I'm told, so in a way it's appealing in a peaceful and pleasant kind of way.
There is nobody trying to force me to buy their concert tickets or dragging me into their restaurant the second I pause to look at a menu. On the contrary, the place I am in tonight (Slovak House) had a guy stood outside, watched me pause to look at the menu "guten abend" he said and that was me. And to be honest I've had a lovely dinner, very reasonable at less than €20 with 2 beers (after the day I had, I was in need of a beer !)
I'm going to give Bratislava another go, it's quiet and peaceful, and at the end of the day that probably suits me. When you get it wrong here, for example saying the wrong word in German, rather than look down at you and shake their heads, they look at you, smile and correct you whilst thanking you for making the effort in the first place.
Tomorrow is Tuesday and Budapest is really just around the corner, can't wait :-) see Monica again :-)
