This blog has been dedicated to the two week Sydney to Cairns tour!
Day 1 - I started my adventure at 6am and took the coach to crescent bay for a lesson in surfing. We learnt how to do the basics of standing on the board as well as swimming in a tea tree oil lake which was great but was pretty cold! There's 28 of us on the trip and have already met some really cool people!
Day 2 - Today was a 5am start but we got to go out to the real waves today and I actually turned out to be really good apparently! Plus as a bonus I saw whales and their babies not too far from us which was just amazing! Our next stop was to Coffs Harbour to see the Big Banana! Which was ... You guessed it a giant yellow banana! We enjoyed frozen chocolate bananas! Next we head to Byron Bay where we stayed in cabins which were so cute! They were like little mini holiday homes but inside was really old school but good to stay in lots of different types of accommodation.
Day 3 - Today gave us a chance to look around Byron Bay for the day so I took up my new found skill and went surfing! Although it was more like body boarding in the end as I could barely get over the waves! No wonder surfers have good bodies! We then had a wonder around Byron and sunbathed! It's a really beautiful area with lots to explore.
Day 4 - Next on our trip was Surfers Paradise in the Gold Coast! This has to be my favourite place so far! The weather was beautiful and we stayed in a 4 star hotel with amazing views over the city and a great pool! I spent the day catching the rays before taking a trip around the city on a bike which was the best way to see the city! This evening we went bowling and I didn't lose so that's the main thing! We then had karaoke and went to a ladies night club where there were topless waiters and free drinks! Was a great night!
Day 5 - Started today with a hangover Full English which was the perfect cure! We head to Brisbane today for a river cruise on the city cats. Brisbane is beautiful and the people were so friendly and the city itself was beautiful! We then headed to Noosa where we explored the beaches before having dinner at the local hostel!
Day 6 - Today we went to Fraser island which is the largest sand dune in the world! We took a 4x4 truck over the sand which was awesome! We also saw dolphins on the way! The island was beautiful and we swam in the crystal clear water! The weather was really cloudy but was still really warm! We then went out for drinks at the hostel and the goon effect happened! Memory blank from here!
Day 7 - Today we leave Noosa for the outback where we stay at Kroombit Park. Our first stop was to Matilda where we had our pictures with a giant kangaroo from the commonwealth. Once we got to the farm we get to goat muster and learn how to lasso! Which I was terrible at although when it came to the competition I got the goat first time! Was so much fun! In the evening we had stories around the campfire and then tries at the mechanical bull! My longest time was 5 seconds! We also learnt to crack a whip which was hilarious and actually pretty hard but got pretty good at it in the end after whipping myself more than the ground!
Day 8 - I went quad biking today in the outback for 20km which was sooo much fun! Especially when I got it into 5th gear and floored it across the track! Definately the best way to see the outback and experience quad biking! Was also very tempted to ride the motorbikes but think my mum may have hunt me down of I did that!! We are now off to Emu Park where we stay in a really nice family hostel and don't stay in bunk beds which is a very big luxury! We also have a togga party in the evening! The trip has so many different amazing experiences and events! Having the time of my life!!
Day 8 - Today was an early start as we made out way to Airlie beach where we board the British defender boat! We had to however dingy over to the boat where we all got soaked! Once on board we sailed through the beautiful sunset and had the sails out on full mask which meant that the boat tied loads and had to hold on for dear life! In he evening we partied it up on the boat before heading to sleep on the boat where I got to sleep in the double bed! I think I was the only one that had a good nights sleep!
Day 9 - Today we sailed to the Whitsunday's and spent time relaxing on the beautiful golden beaches! Never seen anything so beautiful! I also got a very nice tan from here and got buried in the sand and formed a human pyramid which was pretty awesome! We then went snorkelling in the sea and saw some really nice coral and colourful fish but this was after I managed to fall off he boat and then lose my floating noodle and then get hit by the boat! Always creating drama for myself! After the adventures of sailing we headed for South Molles Island which was our own private island that was beyond beautiful! The views were just amazing! We had a beach party in the evening but think most of us were in bed by 10!
Day 10/11 - Today was so hot!! I sent most of the day relaxing by the massive pool and topping up my already pretty good tab! Definitely going to come back to a lot of jealous people! We had lots of good activities in the day too which included coconut bowling which my team won twice!, coconut opening and eating, playing volleyball and then laying tennis! Which I was awful at and kept going into the bushes, every time one of us had a bad shot it meant we had to shot tequila so I was rather tipsy by the end of it! We then had sunset nibbles as the sun set in the evening which was great especially as we were joined by lots of really colourful birds and parrots! In the evening we had karaoke and drinking games where we had to do lots of different dares including going round hugging everyone and pretending to be different animals! Was hilarious! The danger came when I was dancing on the dance floor when my knee decided it wanted to go in a different direction and I ended up on the floor curled up in agony! Luckily one of the girls in the group was a paramedic so she bandaged and drugged me up but it meant that I had to sit the rest of the night with a bag of ice on my knee as I popped it out! Sooooo painful! Now have to be carried everywhere and have everything carried for me so I suppose it's not all bad! Still managed to get carried to the karaoke so that I could sing my song which I don't think the manager was very impressed with! I then called my mum as it was her birthday. I had arranged for a video card of me on Bondi beach wishing her a happy birthday and then arranged flowers to be sent while she was at work! Think I made her cry a lot! Although she did laugh when I told her about my knee! Rude! :p
Day 12 - We left the island today to head to cairns! We have about a ten hour commute on the bus which is unfortunate as my knee has to be elevated as its still in a lot of pain but I'm very drugged up so I'm being brave and soldiering on! :) We arrived in Cairns and had our first experience of Gilligans which is where I am staying for the next 2 weeks. Lets just say im not going to be able to sleep the next few weeks!
Day 13 - We started today with a free day to explore Cairns, because of my knee though I spent time sunbathing by the Lagoon as the beach has crocodiles in it and don't fancy swimming with them! We then explored the small resort of Cairns and had Ice Cream! Tonight we header out to Wool Shed for Ladies night where we got bought lots of drinks and due to me being a cripple got special treatment! Not bad after all!
Day 14 - Tonight was the last day of the tour and our group had really started to become more like a family! We headed out to Port Douglas for our Aboriginal Experience where it was pouring down with rain in the rainforest. We went speaing for fish with water up to our knees and being eaten alive by mozzies! An experience that was rather painful! And we didnt find any fish although there was alot of things in the water we cudnt see which freaked us all out! After returning looking like drowned rats we tried different types of aboriginal food as well as hearing about their culture. We then headed to the Habitat where we got to feed kangaroos, and I got to hold a Koala! It was amazing but rather smelly too! We then had a tearful goodbye to everyone! My next adventure will be staying in Cairns for an amount of time to find work and then travelling to the western coast! Until then over and out! :)
