Rightyhos so now we are sat in Cairns...our final destination :( here for a whole week ! Will be strange to settle for a whole week :S. In between townsville and here we stopped for 2 nights at a little place called mission beach.
Really small village style but was beautiful and unspoilt just the hostel a couple of shops and a miles of unspoilt beaches with nobody on them and nothing to spoil the views of the nearby islands and the reef !
We stayed in mission for one main reason...to do a 14,000ft SKYDIVE!!!!
Neither of us were really that worried leading up to it as we'd been so busy we hadn't really thought about it. On Tuesday we got picked up at 10.30 and went to the drop zone base where we watched the safety video and met our tandem partners and got fitted into our harnesses (really not that comfortable!) we then travlled to where the plane was and all sat in a line in the plane with the tandem partners behind us. They were trying to crack a load of jokes about the parachute failing and saying they suppose they could strap us to them etc etc hehe.
At about 4,000ft I thought we would nearly be there as we were pretty high up but no we still had 10,000ft to go !
At 14,000ft the door shot up and the first 2 went out I (megs) was 3rd and helen was 5th out the door. Before you know whats happening you're sat on the edge of the plane looking at the world below you and then before you can even take a big breath in you're falling through the sky and clouds!
Doing a 14,000ft one we freefell for 60 seconds and through the clouds and then we popped out the otherside to absolutely spectacular views of the ocean, reef and islands! At about 4,000ft the parachute goes up and it feels like you're floating around and not really moving down just twisting and turning looking at the view (Mike the guy who i was jumping with was trying to freak me out by saying he didnt know which direction the mainland was in etc was funny) Its the most bizarre experience to fall out of a plane and then seemingly float to the ground and have a sightseeing wortyhy speech about the islands and reef on the way! After about 5-7mins parachuting we had a safe soft landing on the beach. Was by far the most exciting, exhilarating experience! Recommend it to everyone! Totally awesome! Afterwards it kinda feels like you didn't do it feels a bit like a dream.
So...we are now in cairns for a week so will update you with what we get up to here as we do it!
