Ok so after we arrived in Hervey Bay we promptly left again at 7.30am for our 2 day trip to Fraser Island!! Fraser is a massive sand island and the only way round the world heritage listed place was by 4x4!

After catching the ferry over to the island we met our group of 17 and our group leader Chris. We stayed at the Kingfisher Bay resort in the wilderness lodges which was fun.
Our mode of transport for the next 2 days was to be a huge 4x4 truck/bus thing. The fun was quickly started when the first road we went down was called rollercoaster road! In the bus it was literally like a constant rollercoaster for 20km! up and down through the rainforest over the sand and almost getting stuck a fair few times! The first place we stopped was basin lake which is a freshwater lake (they all are on the island) but u cant swim in this one due to the turtles not liking the sweat ! To get there we trekked 3km through the rainforest and over creeks and seeing some amazing scenery. We then drove to lake mackenzie which is huge! An amazing lake which crystal clear freshwater and bright white sand and we spent a couple of hours here sunbathing and swimming. All food was provided for us on this trip and it was really good food! We spent the evening in the dingo bar by the wilderness lodges eating and drinking with the rest of our group and a very bizzare swiss lady :S

Day 2 and we set off early to get to 75 mile beach which you can drive along at 80kmh with the rainforest on one side and the pacific ocean on the other. Absolutely beautiful! We stopped at one point to look at the Maheno ship wreck which is dug into the sand where it ran aground. Also in the same area was a big sea snake slowly dying on the sand which was disgusting but luckily not fully alive as it is highly venomous!
We paid a visit to a the champagne pools where there are rock pools and when the waves crash over them it looks like champagne bubbling, some huge waves crashed over us. Its one of the only safe places to swim in the sea round there beacuse the rocks protect you from being pulled out by rip tides. We then climbed up indian head where u can look out over the beach and the ocean and we spotted turtles, stingrays and dolpinhs in the ocean! On the way back down the ebach we made a brief stop a a freshwater creek for a dip and then headed back through the sand and rainforest to the resort to catch our ferry back to the mainland.

Tonight we are going to Airlie beach and go on a sailing trip round the whitsundays on tues till weds so we will update when we can.
