Well, this is our first 'Blog' entry.
We're sitting in the shade of a franjapani tree at terminal 2 of Manilas domestic airport. Drinking a 2 $ litre bottle of San Miguel. It's warm because we bought it last night, but it's delicious in the company of Cprime.
We arrived at pension Natividade yesterday afternoon after our 2 flights on Etihad Airlines. First a 13 hr flight into Abu dhabi, a 7 hr layover, followed by a 9 hr flight into the Philippines . Total travel time: 29 hrs.
Time zones crossed: 12?? I don't know. But we're 12 hrs ahead of Toronto.
The pension Natividade was nice. Nothing extravagant, but we splurged for a washroom inside. A total of 1,100 php . We walked around the 'del pilar' after a refreshing, exhilarating shower.
The streets were filled with filipino's hanging on the sides of walkways on couches or chairs. It was so hot that all the men were shirtless or showing their belly's. The woman relaxed in the company of their children. ( we saw alot of grooming happening)
The street was filled with tourist bars, travel guides, and hotels. Taxis and jeepneys owned the streets.
We felt at ease walking the streets, not being haggled or pointed out as white tourists. However, the was one small child that followed us. He was very thin, with big eyes. He seemed to have greenish something all over his head... Bugs perhaps??... And his skin, in places was scabbed. He didn't say a word to us, but extended his hand motioning us to give, while dodged electrical poles, people and other obstacles. Finally, he left us after spotting another Caucasian walking opposite direction.
Eventually we switched directions and walked toward Manila bay. Once we reached it we sat on the cement wall that separated water from walking area. It was about 5 o'clock, and locals were crowded in this area... Just waiting for the beautiful sunset I think.
And it was beautiful... Like a wave of fire across the sky.
Aside from the smell of
Pollution and seawater.. It was spectacular.
- I think Carl would like the mention of how many people were eating Balut's here.. One guy ate about 6!! Mmmmmmm
*** Balut: fertilized duck egg hard boiled.
Afterward, we crossed a foot bridge, headed towar a 7-11 to grab a beer nd relax at our hotel... We got 2 one little beer of San Miguel and re horse... Extra strong!!
At our hotel we grabbe a sandwich each, and decided to plot our route in the room. Once we got o the room it wasn't Lon before the both of us passed out for the night. We didn't even clear one bottle of beer.
