Today has been my favourite day of the whole trip so far. Amsterdam is just beautiful in the day. The architecture and blooming tulips make this one of my favourite cities so far.
I was the first person awake in the whole hostel this morning. I am sharing a room with 7 other girls so it was quite difficult to get out and showered without waking the other girls up. I find staying in a hostel is hard because you are living out of a suitcase and can't fully relax with your belongings but I'm lucky to have really nice girls in my room. I feel comfortable and safe. The shower is a nightmare. The light and water turn off every 30 seconds so you find yourself showering in the dark.
The day started with our full tour group setting off on a bike ride around the city of Amsterdam. This was an absolutely frightening experience for everyone involved as we were trying to steer clear of all of the cars and bikes traveling 100 miles an hour around us. However it has been the highlight of my trip so far. Its a great way to see the whole city (as well as getting some much needed exercise).
As a group, we then all broke up to do various activities. 5 of us went our for lunch and then visited the Anne Frank museum. It was such a moving experience. We were able to go into their secret hide out where she wrote her diary. Anne wrote about hearing the church bells from their 'secret annex' during the war. The same church bells were ringing all throughout the day which was a little eerie.
After this, we went to the flower markets to have a look around and visit the infamous 'coffee shops'. We had Mexican for dinner and then visited an Ice Bar which was -10 degrees Celsius. It was freezing but so much fun. The girls I spent the day with were really fun and easy going. I laughed so much today.
Tomorrow we embark on the big drive to Berlin. I can't wait to read The Diary of Anne Frank on this trip.
Miss everyone
