Last night we arrived at our hostel campsite at 10.00pm after 14 hours on the road. We were stuck in so much traffic but the beautiful views coming into the Swiss Alps were well worth it. The scenery at sunset and twilight was just incredible.
Today, we woke up early, had breakfast and made our lunches for the day. We caught a special train to Jungfraujoch which is at the top of a mountain, 11333 ft above sea level. It is the highest point in Europe. The train trip took two ours up and two hours back down. On the way down everyone gets so sleepy due to the change in altitude so our tour guide gave us all a stick of Toblerone chocolate each to help us through. At the top of the mountain you can follow a self paced tour. I had no idea what to expect and was totally amazed at where the tour led us. We went into a ice cave and were able to go outside and actually stand in the snow. It was freezing but the view was magnificent. I have never seen anything so beautiful before. I couldn't believe how high up we were able to go.
After this tour, we stopped in at the Swiss and Swatch shop to buy a few souvenirs and retreated to the pub for a few glasses of wine. It was so lovely sitting and having a glass of wine while looking at the beautiful snow covered mountains and the waterfalls. When we visit the campsites, the top deck chefs cook for us. We had a traditional apple strudel with custard for dinner which is one of my all time favourite desserts.
Tomorrow is our final stop on this tour... Paris.. Tres bien
