We arrived in Rome later in
the afternoon on Easter Friday. We jumped straight off the bus and began our guided walking tour through the city. We visited the Spanish Steps, the Altare della Patria, the Pantheon, made a wish at the Trevi Fountain and watched the Popes blessing outside of the Colosseum.
Our tour guide then took us to a place that has 150 different gelato flavours. It was very yummy (but filling hehe). Something terrible happened on this walking your however. My closest friend on the tour had her wallet pick pocketed and she lost everything except her passport. This was an eye opener to how easy it is for someone to steal your belongings.
The next day we woke up very early to meet our guide for the Vatican City tour. We were all set up with our ear phones to listen to our guide as it gets so crowded in there. I couldn't believe how spectacular the Vatican is. I was in awe of every room especially the Sistine Chapel. It is hard to take in all of the magnificent art work. To believe that Michelangelo painted that whole roof and wall is just mind blowing and to see his art in person is just such an amazing experience. What made this visit even more special was that they were setting up for the Popes Easter Sunday mass. His red curtains and flowers were all ready for his arrival.
After all of our walking we decided to get a nice authentic Italian meal, Margarita pizza and wine. The food and company was lovely but the people constantly coming up to us to ask for money was not so pleasant.
We then set off to explore the Colosseum. Our guide showed us a trick to skip the queue and I'm so thankful as the line was nearly a 2 hour wait. This was also a spectacular destination. I have learnt so much about the Colosseum at home but to be actually standing there was really exciting.
We came home to our camp site and shared a meal together as a group. We then went to the 'disco' that the camp site hosted which turned out to be a very big night.
Happy Easter everyone
