So this was my first Xmas away from home....anyone that knows my family will know that we love a party and xmas isn't any exception! So I am used to having lots of drinks and laughs on xmas day, theres always at least one memorable event! So it was really strange being away this year.
There must be some unwritten rule that everyone gets drunk on xmas eve and it was no exception in Cumnock. I worked the bar on xmas eve which closed at 11pm, but that didn't stop us having a bottle of wine or two behind the bar.....the perks of working in the middle of nowhere lol. Then ended up at a house party and very quickly catching up on drinks. Didn't wake up until about 12pm xmas day and missed the family opening presents etc, awkward.
Leonie really kindly had hidden a parcel my mum had sent me, and had also got me a lovely gift. Infact even a few locals had brought presents down to the pub for me which was so nice! I really did feel like I was intruding on someone elses xmas...I can't imagine having a random person join us for xmas dinner. But they made it seem like the most normal thing in the world and I felt so welcome which was lovely!
Aussies also love cricket and have a tradition to play cricket on xmas day with the whole family....except it RAINED! That's right it rained, in the middle of summer. I swear I hadn't seen rain in months! So luckily I managed to escape playing a game of cricket ha. But I can't beleive my luck. Was really looking forward to xmas in the sunshine but hey ho. Managed to facetime with everyone at home to and soon as I seen the weather I didn't feel home sick anymore...
For New Year I chilled out with the family and just got sorted for my trip to Sydney to meet my mum and dad!! Propbly one of the quietest Hogmanays I've ever had, but it was really nice. Rang my mum at the bells to say Happy New Year and was responded with "Megan I'm at work, its 2 in the afternoon!!" Cool, miss you too maw.
But anyway two days and I get the train back to Sydney I can't wait. Sydney really feels like home for me now and I can't wait to see all my flatmates. Especially my Roisin as we have been apart for 2 months now! #farmproblems
And as I write my mum n dad are in Singapore so not long until they touch down in Oz!!
