After a great first nights sleep we woke up at about 1pm(Sunday) to a HUGE thunder storm but by the time we had breakfast and got ready there wasnt a puddle insight!! We decided we wanted to explore a few places on the MRT(similar to the underground but the bonus of air con!!) so decided on Little india and China Town. We seem to be one of the very few tourists here so quite often turn heads or get starred at. We put this down to our good looks and witty charm!! We arrived in little india first which was amazing. Felt like we were actually in India. So many vegetarian restaurants. Full of hussle and bussle, people everywhere. We were one of the very few who werent wearing traditional indian gear. Found a temple which at the start we werent sure if we were aloud in so we waited to see if we could see any other tourist in there. It wasnt long before the odd american popped up(they get everywhere!)so we took our flipflops off(hoping someone would exchange them for a better pair)and headed into the colourful temple. It was mindblowing. We have never seen anything like it and it was very moving and fasinating. It was interesting to see how people worship different gods and the difference between religions around the world. After walking up and down Little India (looking in every vegetarian restaurant just for megan) we headed to Chinatown. This again was very different. A more market type place but the temple was so fantastic. By chance we saw the worshipping of one of their gods whilst in the temple which is a memory we will alway remember. It really was so fasinating and we stayed there watching for about 30mins. It really was mindblowing and we loved it. By this time it was quite late so we headed back to the hostel for something to eat. We had already brought some pasta with sauce to cook but to our suprise the hostels oven doesnt work so we decided to have a go at cooking it in the microwave!! Its amazing what you can do with them things. We have never tasted pasta so good!!Probably cause we were so hungry i think grass would of tasted good!
So yesterday (monday 18th) was another funfilled day but we didnt sleep that great so woke up even later (around 3pm lifes a b**** on a monday morning!!)After meeting a New Zealand couple in the kitchen of the hostel we decided to head off to Botanic gardens. So we hopped off the MRT at Orchard Road to try and find it. This street was such a contrast to Little Inda and Chinatown. It was like we were in Newyork. Yellow taxis, high rise buildings and lots of posh shops to look at we wondered if we had come to the right place. After asking about 8 people where to go as there was no signs we were about to cross the road when we met a lady(Victoria) who was also staying at our hostel over night so we had a chat and went round together. The gardens were amazing. So peacful and calm. The lake in the middle was full of giant fish and turtles and there were so many types of trees and flowers it was like being in a rainforest. Also as we were walking out a little frog hopped out infront of us it was so sweet (and we saved a giant snail!!)so we were at one with nature which was obvious from the amount of bites we have over us!It was well worth it though and we got some amazing photos taken.By this time it was getting dark and we could hear thunder and see lightening so we headed back to the hostel where the lovely NewZealand couple (Margaret and Carl) gave us a taster of some Thai fruit they had brought. At the beginning we were abit unsure. They were pink and round with spikes all around them on a small branch and once opened they were a whitish colour with a pip in the middle(almost like eyeballs but without the eye!!)but we went for it and they were actually very yummy. Tasted of grapes so we went and brought some and at around midnight last night we were up eatting them!!yum yum
Today (Tuesday 19th) after another restless night we were up quite early and went to Sentosa which is alittle island south of the city. We got there by Minorail which only took about 10 minutes. Once arrived we walked around abit like zombies not really knowing what the place was about or what to do. After recharging our batteries with a piece of pizza we went exploring and found that the place was full of people and was abit like Alton Towers (but had nature walks and butterfly park instead of rides!!) We went on the Tiger Sky Tower which was really cool and also the cable car which was abit scarly but fun:) Once finished we headed back to our hostel for the worlds best Jacket Potatoe with Vege cheese and baked beans which didnt touch the sides!! Just going to chill out this evening as we are very tired from lack of sleep.
Hope you are all well.
thinking of you as always
