This is our last blog from Singapore as we leave tomorrow night and catch a plane to Cairns in Australia! How exciting!Anyway this is what we have been up to over the last few days..............................................................
Didnt sleep that well on wednesday night as our bites were driving us crazy!!So we had abit of a lazy day and watch some of the olympics and ended up falling asleep again until about 2pm! After breakfast and a shower we looked in our little book of magic to see what we could do and found a Buddha temple near chinatown we hadnt been to so off we went. It was called the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum and we were suprised it was free of charge. We started to walk in when a lady stopped us and said we had to cover up before entering. No we werent topless or starkers but the rule was no tops that didnt cover your arms so we got 2 pieces of material(which looked like tablecloths or a blanket for a picnic!!)and had to wear them as ponchos. Going into the temple there were monks chanting and people praying. There were Buddha statues everywhere all in colour and gold. It was amazing and we are so glad we went to visit. It was on 4 levels and the top had a flower garden which was so peaceful and amazing that you were in the middle of a busy area. There was also a museum which gave u information and statues on the different gods which was very interesting. We were in the Temple for about an hour just amazed by the religion and tradition. We throughly enjoyed it. After we had finished looking around and taken our picnic blankets off we went back to the main stretch of chinatown and found a nice little bar where we had a drink and a chat. We looked around themarket and brought a few things then headed back to the hostel for some yummy noodles!!
Today was our final day and we wanted to try a Singapore Sling (which is a traditional cocktail)before we left so yet again we hopped on the MRT and went to City Hall to find a nice hotel which had a shopping centre inside it and found the bar which sells the drinks. On the table there were free nuts and you chuck the shells on the floor which was quite unusual (but hey we joined in and added to the mess!!) When asking for a menu and looking at the prices one cocktail was $22 (not the cheapest drink for backpackers!)so we quickly got up with a handful of nuts(get what you can) and came out again! At least we got a light lunch for nothing!! Didnt really do alot else. Just had some soup for dinner and packed ready to fly tomorrow evening. We are hoping to meet up with Dan's friend Sam tomorrow before we leave which should be fun:)
Overall Singapore has been an amazing place to stay. The people are so friendly and helpful, the MRT is so cheap, clean and easy to use and would recommend staying here to anyone. We have seen so much and most of all we leave here itching from the bites!!Cant wait for Australia:)
Will write again once all settled in ozzie
Hope all is well
take care
love to you all
