Suzdal... What a ride today... About 90+ miles or something. We headed through Ivanova - Jan, Roger and I were together. Jan confirms that the flies literally follow me. Also, she saw a bee follow me - said that she'd read of some testing on foods eaten, other factors... and the only thing was blood near the surface of your skin. Mine must be on the outside. We cycled around a lake, had a rest stop on an old trash dump (the FLIES!) and they followed me AND Roger. Lucky us :D Saw some herds of cattle and waited for one of them to cross the road, which was pretty bumpy this day (this is bad in Russia, since most of the roads are bumpy). Coming into the fortress-Soviet hotel it was a dirt road with the most incredible potholes everywhere. The cars had trouble! Fortunately, Vlad-2 came back and waited for Jan and me or we would have gotten as lost as some of the fellows! Beautiful flowers along the way...
We had our farewell dinner with some wine and Vlad-1 presented us with some beautiful ride certificates in Russian! Very cool.
The hotel we stayed at was a big resort for the Soviet head-shed. It was built like an army base if you ask me. Large wings of rooms, with a woman staying in the first room of each floor, watching every move the guests made and recording them. Very interesting.
Have I mentioned that wherever we stayed, we'd turn in our passports when we checked in (normal) and the hotel would inform the local police that we were there. The next day when we checked out, they'd tell the police we'd left... Very interesting.
