Great Barrier Reef - here we come. Our day started out nice and early, we needed to be at the Marina by 7:00 to board the "Main Event" for our tour to Lady Musgrave Island.
The weather was thankfully beautiful with clear sunny skies. Unfortunately we hadn't gone very far into the 2 1/2 hour cruise to the island before Kade gave us back his breakfast. This was followed by Cal doing the same all over the side of the boat not long after! We managed to make it the rest of the way without any more up-chucks. On the way we saw lots of - yep, you guessed it again - whales! We also saw a couple of dolphins.
Once we arrived at Lady Musgrave Island we boarded the glass bottom boat to go onto the island and walk through the forest. Some interesting facts we learnt about the island are
- It is the second most southern island in the Great Barrier Reef
- It is a coral cay island which means it is totally made from the broken down coral and sand from the reef - no rocks
We then jumped back on the glass bottom boat for a tour around some of the reef areas. We saw lots of different corals, fish, star fish and a turtle.
After a nice lunch on the boat we went snorkelling - it was awesome. There were fish of every different size, shape and colour as well as beautiful coral and lots of turtles (logger heads, hawksbill and green sea turtles) and some of them were huge.
The boat ride back was a little windy but we made it with no further bouts of sea sickness. It was a fantastic day.
