Today we got up, well, dragged ourselves up more like, at about half 8. Still tired me thinks! We had some brekky and were picked up by Mountain Biking Chiang Mai for, yes, some mountain biking in Chiang Mai!
It was a long and windy road up to the top of the mountain, but fortunately the car drops you up there! My kind of riding! Sara got car sick, though happily didn't actually vomit, unlike the girl sat next to her! We get to the top, are kitted out, checked on our riding abilities and then set off.
It's tarmac to begin with and we pick up speed. Dan is behind the leader and whizzes on, comfortable as you like. Sara is still finding her feet, or wheels. Then we hit dirt track. Downhill, off-road, stoney, gravelly, cobbly, steep, muddy etc.... All goes well until you try and brake and you lose your rear tyre, or you go over your handlebars from braking with your front brake. And that's what Sara did quite spectacularly! Straight over the handle bars, skidded on her chest and tum to a stop on her forehead! Thank goodness for safety gear eh! Dan is still whizzing on ahead and is told Sara is fine and laughing, though I turn up down the hill rather shaken, a bit wobbly, teary and covered in mud and grit! Ah well, the show must go on.
Sara's confidence is knocked a bit but she perseveres, if at a slower speed and further back in the group! In fact, she swaps bikes for a smaller one later on! The views are amazing all the way down and Dan is given the chance to do some real off-roading on a single track part of the mountain while we continue on the main part. He thoroughly loves it and wishes he'd done a harder track! Maybe he'll come back tomorrow!
So, at about half 2 we make it to the lake for lunch, chill-out time and chat. It's been brilliant and we head back to the hotel dirty, sweaty, bottom-achey and thoroughly exhilerated from our day.
Off for dinner and a wander round the market this evening!
