So my 'leaving do' consisted of a family curry night and trying on my rucksack in front of everyone who split their sides laughing as they contemplated how i was going to carry a 19kg rucksack and a 9kg day bag and after some akward photos I was on my way!
The 1st flight was delayed by 1 hour but made up the time along the way, it was long but i managed to sleep through most of it and with 2 hot meals included as well as the MASSIVE amount of curly wurlys/haribo/animal biscuits/oreos mum made me take, I was a very happy camper!
Landing in KL it was 30 degrees! The airport was nice for LCCT but there was an oversight on my part when it came to the toilets. Instead of having conventional (normal) toilets, it was a hole in the ground with a hose pipe to flush!I couldnt seem to work out how to squat low enough without taking my trousers off and there was no way i was taking my shoes off! After some carefull manovering i thought i was ready, only i missed the hole and it went shooting underneath the toilet door. After one final attempt i managed to position correctly but got my trousers covered in you know what! GROSS!The flight was ok but there was a sorm over Malaysia whoch made it a bit bumpy.
Finally landing in Perth I smelt like a tramps armpit. I got the the Britannia on William Hostel at about 6.30am but couldnt check in untill 12noon. So i got changed, stored my bags and off I went to explore. The weather was cold and wet, it rained non stop fot the 1st day, luckily i had my 'pac a mac' on hand to save the day and teamed with pink flip flops and chinos I looked every bit the tourist! Everywhere was closed except for McDonalds! After stopping in every coffee shop that was open (resulting in coffee overload) the main shops finally opened about 9am. I got all my jobs done and returned back to the hostel to check in.
The hostel was really basic, DUMP springs to mind. Dingy and dark but really central. The showers/toilets were really clean! Not much atmosphere.
Helen arrived at about 2am, she was a bit emotional due to being tired/away from home etc. I havn't cried yet, she might think im heartless!
We have now moved to a new hostel called Underground Backpackers which is much better. Different atmosphere altogether. Staying here for 2 nights and then looking to move somewhere else i think. We had a mooch about the city and met up with a friend of Helen's who was really helpfull.
Hayley arrives to night so looking forward to seeing her tomorrow! I think Helen might be going over to the East Coast soon so I will need to start thinking about what my plans are car/route/time etc.
Looking to go to the coast today to have a look about there, should be good!
Post again soon with some pics! Love Megan x
