So much has happened since i last wrote my blog; some good, some not so good.
Christmas was a strange time. I worked over most of the Christmas holidays but was still able to spend some time with family. The Westfield shopping centre was closed on Christmas day so everything was very quiet, even the Observation Deck was closed. I wasnt in the best mood and felt a little homesick, plus my presents hadnt arrived from home so it was a pretty rubbish Christmas morning. Although i did get a few gifts from the family i was staying with which was really nice but its not the same as being at home. I had bought the boys (Joseph and Thomas) a transformer action figure and some chocolates which they seemed to like. Although im not convinced that they know what transformers are. Jane and Dean gave me a lovley difuser for my room and John and Dorethy unexpectedly gave me a David Jones voucher :-) By the time i got back from work they had already eaten so i joined them in some leftovers for supper. There was one big difference i noticed between the Andersons and the Robinsons and that was the ammount of food that was made. The Andersons made what looked like a lovley dinenr with just enough for each person to be sufficient and a little bit left over for the next day. Im not sure if this is simply Dean's way of cooking as he mostly cooks from scratch however in the Robinson household, Christmas dinner is prepared in mass quantities almost as if preparing for hybernation. So because i was at work, i didnt have a real Christmas dinner and had to settle for a McDonalds as it was the only thing that was open in central Sydney. Not really what you want on Christmas Day.
New Years Eve made up for Christams though. I got discounted tickets to one of the events beign held at the tower so myself, Kirsty and a few friends spent the night in 360 Bar and Dining in the Sydney Tower for a cocktail and canape evening. I was working untill about 9pm so joined the others afterwards. All drinks and food were included as well as viewing of the NYE fireworks. The view was amazing, we were actually higher than the fireworks!! You could see accross the whole of Sydney and all the different fireworks going off. The CBD fireworks were the main attraction and i managed to get a few photos and videos. It was a really good night and im so glad thats where i spent the evening.
Kirsty and i went to visit Palm Beach on the North Shore which is where they base Home and Away. It was a public holiday in the school holidays so there were more peopel off the normal. The bus took 2 hours to get there due to all the traffic. We had to duck off the bus a few stops early as Kirsty needed the loo. It was such a hot day and the ebach was so busy. We met Sophie and her family there too as they were in Australia for Christmas. It was really nice to see Sophie as we hadnt seen her since our graduation. We had a really nice day at the beach, had a mooch about to see the famouf 'suft club' and had some lunch at one of te cafes. I would like to go back soon while its winter to watch them filming as they dont film in summer due to the crowds.
In early January i went to see the Arctic Monkets at the Enmore Theatre in Newtown. They were fantastic. I had bought 2 tickets to the gig with the intention of finding someone to go with nearer the time. I met a girl called Charlotte who bought the extra ticket and we went together. It was a brilliant gig but they didnt play all of the songs i wanted them to. We walked back and got chips so all in all it was a good night :-)
While working at the tower i spend quite a lot of time in the CBD and Circulay Quay. While the weather was good i would often have a mooch down to CQ and The Rocks to visit the markets etc. It always nice to have lunch at CQ where you can see the Opera House and Bridge. Its reminds you where you are. For my 23rd birthday, i met Kirst and went out for some drinks after work to the Ivy and then on for dinner at Opera Bar and then for cocktails at the Shangri-La Hotel. It was a ncie evening although again my presents from home didnt arrive in time but Kirst bought me a little cake which was nice. It made me realsie that you have to make birthdays special or they will just disapear and you wont be able to rememebr what you did to celebrate them. So for my 24th birthday i will be making more of an effort to do something memorable.
I got sick of living in the boarding house in Chippendale and i decided to look for somewhere else to live when the tenancey ran out. I had met Annaliese a few times and while we were out for dinenr to celebrate her birthday we decided to look for somewhere together. We looked at a few places, one of them had the most amazing view of Sydney CBD and harbour. We didn't get accepted for that one but it was right at the top end of our budget so im quite glad. We got a 2 bed flat in Waterloo with 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies and car parking. It's a really spacious apartment and quite cheap so we were happy and we rent out the car space to the people who run the loacal newsagents. It's on a main road which has a direct 10 minute bus service to the CBD as well as beign close to Waterloo Oval, Redfern, Supermarkets and the Alexandria Outlets shops. There is also a McDonalds and Nandos within walking distance as well as a local chip shop.
Annaliese knew someone through work who sold us some things for the flat. We got everything we could need including: fridge, washing machine, sofa, dinnig table and chairs, tv cabinet, coffee table, double bed & mattress, 2 bedsite tables, plates and crockery. It was great because everything matched. The only problem was that there was only one double bed included. The other one was a single bed. I took the single bed while we looked for an alternative. We found a spare dismantled bed frame in the corner of the car parking space so we took it up to the flat and i started to assemble it. There were a few things missign but it was an IKEA bed so we went to IKEA and got the spare parts. I bought a double mattress from IKEA and managed to get it home in a mini bus taxi only to find that the bed was a queen size. Luckily Annaliese took it back and exchanged it for me with the help of George who we had bought all the furniture from. Very kind :-)
So we basicly managed to furnish the entire flat for about $1000 in total. Than included us buying a new TV. We got a great 42 inch 3D tv from JB HIFI. I love it!
Working at the tower was great and we put through the application for sponsorship but unfortunatley it was declined. So i am now doing temp work untill the end of my WHV which is at the end of September. My mum is coming for a holiday in September so i am saving hard for that so i can enjoy myself and then i am going to move to New Zealand and loko for work there. I ahve decided to move to Auckland to work and then maybe do some traveling fpr a few weeks at the end of my 12 months working. The plan is to save up while im there so i can travel a little on the way home and have some money when i get back as well as pay off some debts. So there is lots for me to do at the moment. I'm going to miss living in Sydney with Annaliese but i see it as an opportunity and am looking forward to moving.
While i was working at the tower i also did a PR internship for PressLoft which was really good. It ment i was working 6 days a week which was a lot but i really liked it so it was worthwhile and i learned a lot. When i finished the internship they gave me a voucher for RedBalloon which is a gift experience website. I booked a 3 hour sailing lesson on the Sydney Harbour :-) im so excietd. It's booked for the 21st July. I have also booked a day trip to the Hunter Valley with Annaliese for next weekend which will be nice, 6 wineries, lunch and transport included as well as visits to the cheese and chocolate shop.
I will try and update more regularly :-)
