We were recommended to visit the 'Te Papa' museum if we got the chance whilst we were in Wellington... so we did! It is a free museum with five floors dedicated to the history & culture of New Zealand. A lot of the exhibits are interactive & entertaining & there is a lot to look at, so it would be easy to spend an entire day in there. However, due to our schedule, we managed to squash it all in to a period of two hours!
On our way to the museum we drove past a'props' company & saw all sorts of cinderella & castle props, which then triggered our memories into remembering that one of the studios that Peter Jackson used for 'Lord of the Rings' is based in Wellington. So before we left the museum, we swung by the book shop & flicked through Peter Jackson's Biography & found a photo of the place which happened to have a road sign in it! Then we set off on a mission to find it!
It was suprisingly easy find, down a little road of a few factories & houses & there it was, no gates or anything! We strolled to the reception door & Maz reeled off the usual "We are media students from England" speech & we were in!
The first person we met, after a life size Ork statue, was Tania Rodger, one of the two founders of the company. She was super nice & showed us around the conference room where all their awards & some photos & figures are displayed. We were informed that they unfortunatly could not show us much more as they were currently in production & it has to be kept under-wraps. After a long chat with the receptionist & taking whatever free booklets we could get, we left with big grins on our faces only to have the door held open by Andy Serkis (the actor who plays gollum in LOTR)! We remained proffessional & said thank you until he was our of sight & we could go nuts about how cool that was!
