hola amigos
this is the second to last blog in south america and my last! (the end of an era!) im writing this one after spending 10 days in and arround cusco doing the jungle inka trail all the ay to matchuu pitchuu.
to start with we caught a bus from copacobana which took us across a very easy border crossing and into peru to a place on the other side of lake titikaki called puno! where a bus shopuld of been waiting for us! BUT it was late! an hour late! eventually it got there and took 10 hours to get to cusco. originally we where going to try and get into the much talked about hostel loki in cusco but as we got there at 2 in the mnorning we didnt think we could get there so we ended up plumping for a much less sociable one who braught us a leaflet! and put us in a taxi!
we got to our hostel which was basically just like a familys house but we had a tv with cable in our room so on the second night in cusco we settled down to not 1 but 2!!!! harry potter films in one night! MENTAL!
after the crazily mad harry potter night we were obviously very tired but had to wake up at 7 o clock to join our 18 person group to do the jungle inca trail! the first day was just cycleing down a nicely tarmaced down hill road which we got off just before it got bumpy (bit gay). wen we finished the cycle we went alliong in the mini bus to the first hostel where we had a full night with our group of playing cards and drinking some cervesa!
on the second day we woke up at 7 o clock and set off walking on the inka trail through all sorts of terain including jungle mountains and even some on a river bed! after 9 hours of greuling walking we arrived at some hot springs which did exactly what we needed for our many aching limbs and sore feet! it even made us feel properly clean for the first time in too long! ont he night we weent to a resteraunt and some of us even decided to have a few more cervesas at a local club!(which had a total of 9 people in! inclding us 6!)
on the third day we had to walk abnouther 17 kilometres which 10 of it was allong a train track! witch was about as tedious as watching paint dry! but the good scenery made up for that! we arrived at the town we where staying in called agua carriantis(or something allong those lines!) and went strait to bed for a much needed 3 hour nap before tea! for the first time in the tour we had a choice of what we ate and it didnt have to invlove chicken or meat with rice! luxury! after tea we went for a few drinks art a bar and played some more cards!(great preperation for our 4 AM wake up)
the next day we woke up(after feeling like we had not slept a wink) and some of us set off for a walk and some got the bus up(LAZY) after walking up as early as physicaly possible we arrived at the entrace gates to machuu pitchuu where max and i got held up for about 30 minutes by a very dumb woman who couldnt get the system to work! after finaly getting ito work we got our tickets and walked into matchuu pitchuu! after looking round the ruins for a bit we set oiff up the adjesent mountain to machuu pitchuu called waynapitchuu to get a birds eye view of the ruins!(you will see the pics).
at about 12 o clock we set off down from matchuu pitchuu by bus this time! because of being veruy tired!(not lazy!) we got down and got the train from the nearby train station back to a city just an hour from cusco! from here there was a massive confuson and we ended up (listening to a crazy candian guy that was on our tour) getting on a tour bus that went through the sacred valley and stoped off at a cathedral on the way! but we didnt pay so it was ok!
we arrived in cusco and went to a hostel called the point as we planned to meet some of the guys off the tour there for a few nights out in cusco!
so here we are after them nights waiting for a bus to arica in chile as we need to get down as fast as possible to santiago for our flight out of here to new zealnd in 6 days!
hope all is well in england or whereever your reading this!
love
charles!
