Hello everyone!
We´ve been in Rio three days now and finally begining to enjoy ourselves after a very bizare start! We set off last Saturday night on a 6 hour coach journey from Leeds to Heathrow. A couple of hours passed and all was going well we were chilling out listening to our ipods on the back of the bus next to the toilets (convinient seats we thought)! Anyway, i was totally oblivious to a women who wondered over and stood outside the toilet and because of my earphones the gipping noises that are coming from her! Charles however heard these and turned around in his seat, only to find himself getting a few splashes of sick getting sent his way. One carrot even ended up in his eye ruining his contacted lenses which were supposed to last him a month! This resulted with Charles literally rolling around in agony in the seats in front for the next couple of hours until he managed to fall asleep with one of his shoes as a pillow! Meanwhile... i was quite lucky baring in mind Charles dramatic injury as i was only sprayed almost head to toe in a spray of her sick! Sounds bad enough i think you would agree? But, what really hurt me the most was the fact the toilet she was waiting for wasn´t actually occupied she had just pulled the door instead of pushing it!!Needless to say she was so embarressed she never came back out of the toilet and we never got an apology.
So we arrive at Heathrow exhausted, a good five hours before our flight (two hours before we we´re allowed to check in). We decided to go for a beer in a bar to celabrate the start of our adventure after half the pint we were rudely awoken by the barman who had seen us laid down on the two sofas with our shoes of and feet up fast asleep, we we´re then advised to leave and go to a hotel!
A less eventful 13 hours on the plane then passed.Charles saw this lull in events as a time to shine and prove to all those people that doubted he would return (myself included)... they we´re going to be right. We collected our bags and decided to exchange some money outside the airport to pay for a taxi to the hostel. Charles gets his wallet out (includes cash cards, money and more importantly his passport) he then exchanged some money, he puts his wallet on the counter while he puts his money into his pocket. We then find a ridiculously expensive taxi, but we wern´t put off after all a cheaper one we would have to of waited for! We then get out of the taxi to pay him... Charles goes white. We were then in what felt like a formula one car back to the airport as the driver knows the bank shuts at 12 and it was 11:45 at this poin. We witnessed an absolute miracle as we arrived at 12.05 and no one has taken his wallet in such a crime ridden city!
Since then however its been great! On our first day we visited the christ statue and then copacabana beach where I sat and watched Charles (the bottle nosed dolphin) in his true habitat! We then took our vast pub quiz experience to the test as we created a true team of champions to the hostels pub quiz but as with every other pub quiz in our history, we lost and ended up very drunk! So we spend the next day recovering on Copacabana and later Ipanema beach this resulted in two very very red English boys naturing their burns last night! Today thankfully hasn´t been as hot so we took the metro to Uruguaiana to visit the massive street market, it was here we found our first taster of what i think will be the real Brazil.
We are enjoying Rio so much we have booked in for another couple of nights and we are planning on visiting the favelas (not alone don´t worry mum!), the last game of the season at the Maracana and finally the infamous favela funk party!
Anyway, hope your all well and i´ll speak to you all soon!
Max and Charles (although Max wrote it)
