alright guys iv just come back of a 3 day Mekong delta trip from Cambodia and finishing at Saigon, its been an amazing 3 days boating and seeing the way the Mekong gives life to so many, the river starts in Tibet and ends at the shores in south Vietnam, the journey started at Phnom Penh the we boated to the border of Vinh Xuong where we done the immigration game, then it was off again down the mighty Mekong, its so big and as we moved away from the border we come a bit to close to a massive container ship, our skipper didn't see it at first but the sound of the horn from the hugh ship soon got his attention, we where just looking at this hugh boat thinking please move !!!!!!!!!!, so from there it was to the 1st point in Vietnam which was Chau Doc, a small little town with a little vibe about the place, we spent a night here and i once again discovered that beer can get cheaper @ 50p for 2 big bottles of Mekong beer it was sweet words i was hearing, i met a German guy who was a top fellow and we sunk a few then off to snooze as we where up bright and early the next morn.
Day 2 was a 6 am wake up and some brekkie for our 2nd day on the Mekong, we 1st visited an amazing view point up the mountain in Chau Doc where we viewed the border of Cambodia/Vietnam and many many rice fields on the river, we the headed for a local fish farm where the little floating houses along the river had big openings where they had thousands of fish for sale at the markets and international traders, these little houses where cool as, just in the middle of a hugh river living their daily lives in peace, it was then on to a local ethnic minority village and we checked the locals making cloths from the old fashioned way of weaving, once again the peoples just living their lives as normal, so we then moved down stream still passing locals going about their business with there little hats on, we arrived @ Long Xuyen where it was fairwell to the 1 day trippers and onwards for me to Can Tho which is 1 of the most southern points on the Mekong Delta, i did plan 1 day but this place was amazing to be floating along and seeing the traditional ways of the Vietnamese, a stayed another night in this Mekong capital and just pretty much relaxed for the night, 1 thing iv noticed here is the kids are so friendly, they just wanna talk to ya and say hi, you might pass a little shop when a rugrat runs out shouting "hello, hello" its really good, i think its because they are learning English and like to practice - fair play, so thats day 2.
Day 3 - next day arrives and its off along the Mekong for my final day and this time im visiting the Mekong river's largest floating market, this place was the nuts, all the locals trading their produce with so much fruits you other foods, i had fresh pineapple and bananas sliced right in front of me and they where well tasty, this market was quality, the amounts of boats where amazing, i took a few pics which i will try and get on asap, after the floating markets we moved on to a rice-noodle farm and a rice factory to learn the customs of producing noodles and the making of white rice/brown rice etc, i found it really interesting and reading this you might laugh but its really cool, the price here is a lot to back home im sure about that 1, here's a fact for ya, Thailand is the largest rice producer followed by Vietnam and then suprising enough America is 3rd, so we had a bit of tucca and headed for Vinh Long and My Tho (2 little town on the Mekong river) where we had a quick stop then onwards to Saigon, i totally enjoyed the Mekong Delta experience and 3 days was enough time to see the locals living their daily lives and the life source of the Mekong and the importance to the people, im now in the busy city of Saigon where the population of 11 million peoples are racing about, with 4 million motorcycles whizzing around, its a long way from the peaceful floating down the Mekong and listening to locals trading but hey its moving on to see differant ways of life in Vietnam, ok guys im off now as the England are playing in the world cup final and im going to cheer our boyo's on !!!!!!!!!!!
SWING LOW SWEEEEEEEEEET CHARRRRRRRRRRRIOT, COMING FORTH TO CARRY ME HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
