From the relaxed sailing to the city of 4 million motorbikes and 11 million people (that explains why they travel with 3 to a bike), this city was like most other with the streets blocked with traffic and trying to cross the road is hard work, i was planning to stay here 2 days and i did just that, as for organisation it was pretty well liad out, i planned to visit the Cu Chi tunnels where the Viet Cong and the americans fought many battles during the Vietnamese war, the Viet Cong where hard fighters and the tunnel systems shows just that, it was a place to show respect as many lives where lost here and many still affected by the chemical warfare which was used by the americans, we had chance to go underground to see the tunnels and the 240 km track that they take - we did a few hundread metres and it was hard work, the heat down there is immense, so have a look at the pics and it gives you an idea how the Viet Cong used these tunnels, the history of this country has seen many invaders come and go and this is explained all over Vietnam and the flags everywhere show this, so we spent a few hours at the trunnel systems and our guide told us loads of info, like how long they go for, the living inside of them (some people for 20 years), and the warfare used by both sides, after learning more about the war and the tunnels used it was back to Saigon and i headed for the Reunification palace where in 1975 the Communist north Vietnamese forces rolled into Saigon and reunified the Country of Vietnam after over 100 years of other rulers under a communist goverment, i think it was during the 1990's that Vietnam opened the doors for people to travel and visit, so that was my day around Saigon, we stopped at 1 place on the way to the tunnels which was a workshop for the disabled people affected by the war and the chemical weapons used still sadly affects lives, it was sad to see the people hurt & amazing to see their art work, it was true talent which takes upto 1 year to design a painting but the finished piece is amazing - anyone can buy the artwork, respect to the people working here making their living, after my day it was bus time and now for the beach town of Nga Trang (11 hours away), had me 2 seats thou - happy days !!!!!!
