With past issues firmly in my mind I got the taxi to arrive 30 min early to pick me up to get to the airport for my 2 hr flight from xian to shanghai. Sadly there were no dramas at all! Again I was really surprised at how efficient and clean the airport was.
Once I touched down I had 2 options to get to the next hostel, taxi to the door or a mix of trains and walking. As I'm wanting to get all of my past youth travelling out of the system I took the complicated route. First the Maglev train. 300km an hour for 8mins. First one to comment on how far it went wins a spa with Rach! Then I transferred to the metro to catch line two for 6 stops before the walk from exit one at the station. Piece if piss and according to the hostel 30 min quicker than the taxi!
The hostel is... Well different. Not quite the stunning 7 sages hostel in xian but looks ok. My rooms fine but place just looks maybe hard to get to know others.
As i got in at 4pm I had a wander around and joined the other throngs of people who were in the shopping/eating area if east nanning rd. place is seriously on steroids. Nothing like rest of china it's more like Singapore. The American Chinese girl who was on tour in xian with said shanghai is like New York x 50.
Next job is washing. Getting sick of smelly shirts and this place has washing machine facilities for $2 a load. Beijing hotel was $10 a shirt so I ended up hand washing there.
So looking forward to fresh and clean clothes tomorrow!

Colin Thoroughly enjoying your travelogue, Matt. I assume (and Rachael sincerely hopes) that the Spa prize was limited entries from Watson juniors! Cheers, Colin
Anna Awesome Matt, least it'll be less washing for Rach when you get home too! Wonder if you'll happen across another fellow kiwi tonight...
