Well I've finally started my Kiwi Experience. The first thing we did was go to Mount Eden in case I missed anything two days ago. Actually, the first thing I did was realise that I'd left my phone and iPod charger at my hostel. It's apparently there for me to collect in two months...
Anyway, it was then on to the Coromandel region for Hot Water Beach, where hot water comes out from the rocks into the sand and you can dig your own spa pool. It was ludicrously overcrowded but still nice. And hot. Seriously hot. I spent the evening teaching girls to play pool and trying not to waste too much money on beer. I get the feeling this is the way most of my evenings will operate.
The next day, everyone left except me, because I'm a rebel. I tried to find a way to kayak to Cathedral Cove, which is closed to walkers. There was no way, so I teamed up with Harriet - also from Somerset - and we hired bikes and ride to Shakespeare Cliff, then Lonely Bay to swim and find caves, rocks and an octopus. We then felt the need to get drunk, so we cycled 5km to a vineyard to do some wine and spirit tasting. The overly talkative kiwi bloke there clearly shared our perspective and served us every wine, cider and spirit under the sun. For free! The cycle back was incredibly short and easy.
The kiwi experience kids had arrived when we got back and were playing drinking games. No thanks. I watched half of "The Beach" and hit the hay.
