Zorbing. Who invented that? Cos that's what we did for the first part of today. Or more accurately, some people went zorbing while I took photos of then rolling down the hill then being "born" out of the centre ball that is filled with water. I would have put one of those photos on Facebook but Irish Lisa would have hunted me down and put my camera somewhere uncomfortable.
On the journey to Waitomo, a slightly less grumpy Grumpy Pete told us there had been a significant earthquake in Chrustchurch with "massive damage". It wasn't until we'd got to Waitomo and turned on the TV news that we realised just how terrible it was. I was glued to the TV until I had to run to my bus pickup. I have a friend who lives in Christchurch and I was properly worried for her...
We went to Ruakuri Caves to check out Te glowworms. They were cool, but I was somewhat underawed by the cave itself, other than the mightily impressive entrance, which they basically drilled into the main cave as the other entrance was a Maori burial ground.
I spent the rest of the evening cooking for Lisa then going to the bar to check on the news of the earthquake. People already confirmed dead, and the iconic cathedral tower collapsed. Horrible. My Facebook wall came alive when I finally got to the Internet. Yes, I'm fine. I only hope the people of Christchurch recover.
