Hi all, having left our hotel in Saigon during torrential rain, we arrived at the station to wait for our train to Nha Trang. I remained nervous about who our sleeping companions would be, whilst Matt was extremely excited about sleeping on a train like a child with a new toy!! Anyway, we found our little wooden cabin, with four bunk beds which was actually lovely, settled in, and waited with baited breath to see who would join us. Ten minutes later, I looked up to see a chain saw being put on the floor beside our beds, at this stage I think we both started to panic slightly! The saw was then followed by two guys with probably enough equipment to build a house! I think that our faces must have said it all, because the guys looked at us apologetically, and then a few minutes later, started taking all of their equipment back out to another cabin - phew! This meant that we had a room to ourselves - perfect, we both slept well and had a really pleasant journey arriving in Nha Tang at about 5am.
We then caught a taxi to our hotel which was fab. It is run by a family who seemed to live there with their two little girls (one inparticular took a great liking to Matt and serenaded us one evening in the bar with a guitar - what a charmer and she's only about two!) The bar was on the rooftop of the hotel and so had great views over the city and served icy cold beers which were great after a day in the sun.
Having caught up with a couple of hours sleep, we had a wander around the city, which is largely centered around tourism. We wandered down to the beach which is amazing, a promenade stretches it's entire length which is lined with trees and sculptures - really not what we had expected from such a poor country. We found a microbrewery complete with beach and poolside sunbeds which became our home for the next two days.
After a few days relaxing and doing very little it was time to leave Nha Trang and head to Hoi An. Unfortunately the train was fully booked so we had to opt for a sleeper bus - BIG MISTAKE - it was horrendous!!! We got on the bus to find that we had two top beds with a drop either side of them to the floor, where there were also people sleeping (they really do cram you in) The beds were basically reclining seats with hardly any legroom and were the most uncomfortable things ever. Neither of us got much sleep and so please excuse me if this blog doesn't make sense in anyway. Matt is currently trying to sleep so that he feels more human and we can go into town to book a train for our next couple of destinations - we couldn't face another sleeping bus!
Anyway, I'd better go,
Lots of love
L xx (and a very sleepy Matt)
