Cold and drizzly when we leave Salamanca and join the A66 dual carriageway towards Caceres.
We climb up to rolling pastureland with pale, sparse grass in fields with dry stone walls. Sheep and cattle are the first livestock we've seen for some days. The higher we get, the nearer we are to the clouds and soon we are driving in heavy drizzle.
Descending in height the field turn into woods of very old Grandee olive trees stretching for miles.
The next lot of pasture is darker green, much more lush and fertile.
Further on we pass a few lakes, and then start a long descent for miles and miles. As we approach Plasecinta grey boulders and rock outcrops remind us of Bodmin moor.
We stop for lunch before the final 40 miles to Caceres, but the camperstop proves difficult to get into; a classic case of GPS Co-ordinates being the wrong side of the fence. We see the motorhomes through the chain link and a couple blokes wave directions to Grete. After a round trip of nearly a mile we find the entrance and park.
Ali and Grete wander in through light drizzle for a recce and return with favourable comments so we plan for an early supper and early night so we can all visit the old town tomorrow.
