Rest assured: Everyone I am very safe here in Senegal. Dakar is a very large and strange city that I have to get use to, but I have been safe, every step of the way. Whenever I walk around town I have at least 2 friends with me...Yes, it is a developing country that is unknown to many, but it is also an amazingly beautiful country, where people smile at every corner and greet me in my neighborhood. And yes, the occasional Senegalese man will come up to me to talk and see what I'm up to, but I've learned a trick by asking what direction they are walking and then I say I'm walking the opposite...problem solved!
I am learning every day in class with Wolof and Development Theory. Also, in my host family's house with their traditions and my French speaking abilities. Then, on the streets, learning new Wolof phrases to say on a daily basis...
But that's all for now..I know it's not too much! I have to go and talk to my advisor about my internship!! yeah!! I'll tell you all right away what I'll be doing!
LOVE YOU!
.....THIS JUST IN... for my internship: I will be mentoring young girls to go to school and stay in school. It sounds like I will be tutoring them and possibly teaching English classes after school. The city that I'll be staying in is called Fatick which is about 150km away from Dakar and has about 45,000 people. Yeah! I'm so excited! I have a lot of work to do for this internship but I'm so excited to be working with young girls and promoting education.!!
Until next time my loves...
