What an intense day!
Its mid-afternoon of my first day in Asia. So far, so good.. People seem incredibly uninterested in anyone else's existence ( Similarly to London, one may trek around town wearing a pink elephant costume and no-one would as much as stare). It also seems to be full of western ladies travelling alone and visiting the city solo, which makes me feel like less of a loner.
But let me sum up my adventure so far:
I survived two turbulent and sleepless, fully booked flights, made it into BKK at 5.30am on one hour sleep.
Traffic is so intese here ( haha, and I thought Istanbul had it bad) I finally made it to the hotel at 11ish.
My cab ride was pretty much as nerve wrecking as the 12 hours on the plane and cost about as much as a pack of smokes in London. My driver took the congestion as a chance to indulge himself with disgusting activities and amid his chain smoking he showed me the real reason for which eastern men grow their pinky nail so long: the man went on a 20 minute 'scavenger hunt' in the depths of his nostrils only to fling his newfound 'treasure' out the window (I mean, with the dedication he was putting into it I briefly assumed he'd frame his findings). He then grabbed a razor blade and started shaving dead skin off the palms of his hand-gross! Needless say, when I got to destination and he insisted on shaking my hand all I could say was ' naaah thanks, I'm cool' and sped off into the hotel Lobby.
My hotel room is massively cool ( quite unexpectedly, considered its pricing) and I am thinking about NEVER sleeping in order to enjoy both Bangkok and the gorgeous accommodation.
I later rode the skytrain ( basically a train which runs above ground, suspended on rails offering a good chance to see the city from above) into Siam square, where a bunch of shopping malls are ( yep, i went straight for the gold).
I was naughty and bought a gown and a pair of shorts- I can either blame this on my latent shopaholism or on the nice ladyboy who followed me round the store thanking me for god knows what, every two seconds, but what the hell, they were cheap!
I saw a beautiful pair of shrines of something or other ( damn it I cannot make out a word of what they say here, not in Thai nor in English.
I am currently poolside roasting and enjoying what appears to be the world's spiciest shrimp soup (but hey, when in Thailand... you know how the saying goes), trying to catch my breath before I head off to the flower market later tonight.
I miss you all already!! keep me posted on whats going on!
Send any requests you may have and do not be stingy with your comments and messages, remember I'm gonna be alone a long time and I appreciate the company!

Maria Jose Martinez I have a question regarding the following: "...what appears to be the world's spiciest shrimp soup"- does that mean my dad's shrimp cocktail has now gone down the ranking?
