Hey All,
Another excerpt from the life in Costa Rica. Today we'll be discussing the regular workout schedule of the students here at Beyond Study Abroad and how I am managing to eat enough.
Everyday I get out of class at about 12, then I hustle over to the office where we have a gym and weightroom. A regular week will entail that I have an individual workout at 1230pm with one of the program directors on the half court. Then in the afternoons at 2pm I will have a group workout with some of the other student athletes. This will be either plyometrics, muscle group workouts, or some type of conditioning. In addition, I am able to go to the Arba basketball team's practices with the program director, which he coaches. This always provides me with more than enough activity to fill the day.
So how am I keeping my weight? Each morning I get a hot breakfast with my host mom, Gloria. She and I sit down and have a full spread of rice, beans, fresh-cut fruit, eggs, etc. Then at 1030, midway through class, we get a break and I have started getting a breakfast sandwich at a local food stand at the university. After class, I usually grab a couple slices of bread and jam before my 1230 workout. After my two workouts, I either go get a snack at a local food stand or have a protein shake. A little later, I have another bigger meal at the house with Gloria. However, she usually does not eat much because they usually have lunch for their big meal each day. The food is amazing overall. Meals are usually 4-6 US dollars, but the portions are much larger. Arroz y frijoles, or gallo pinto, is served with all of the meals. Its a great way to keep myself full and putting on weight.
I'm having a blast so far, and I am so excited to hear from everyone back home. Love getting texts and messages.
