Went to Sudbury yesterday (sat) and had a walk up the High Street. Quaint little shops all sandwiched together on either side of the street.
There was a market at one end and we checked out the fruit and veg. Nectarines were the size of oranges. Beautiful apricots, pears, grapes and strawberries. The bananas come in from Costa Rica and Jamaica. All sorts of vegetables, with stall holders extolling their freshness. Buckets of cut flowers, a fishmonger and cheese stall were all of interest to us comparing prices to back in Australia.
There was a beautiful old church there, built in the 1500's which Gordon and I went in to have a look at.
We marveled at the huge old wooden doors, the stained glass windows and huge pipe organ. The ceiling was also beautifully preserved.
We then went to Len and Anne,s home.
Anne is Gordon's cousin on the Carter side. Her mum was sister to Aunty Jean West and Gordon's Dad.
Had a lovely time catching up and they had prepared a fantastic meal. Len had been a chef. there was a huge bacon and onion quiche, voul a vents with a salmon type filling (delicious),pork pies!! Sausage rolls, ham and salad, cheese pickled onions, and so on.
Then for dessert , a huge pavlova with cream and strawberries and raspberries. A huge trifle with cherries a nd a red jelly with tinned grapefruit slices in it. That was a distinct taste and very refreshing.
