My Australia Fun
Hello friends and family and others. Time for a bit of updating. When I finished my last tale, I believe I was just about to start working. I've now been at Telstra for three weeks, and it is very, very easy and very dull. Which is the kind of job I like, really (except for the part about it being dull, but I can like with that). Basically, I just take down messages for businesspeople hundreds and hundreds of times a day. Then I press a button to send the message off. So, essentially, I'm a human voicemail service. It would be infinitely worse if we couldn't get away with not doing much work. Luckily, we can get away with not doing much work. I've been starting at 7am this week - next week too - which means getting up at 5.30 am. Horrendous. However, it helps that the people at work are nice - particularly my lovely friend Hannah and my friend Joel (who is in the photo). Between them, they are my social life. In the last few weeks, I've had many a good time drinking goon, eating steaks, playing cards and enjoying myself.
I've also moved into a house in a fairly nice part of Brisbane (5 minute walk from Coles, 15 minutes from The Valley with its nightlife and what have you, and 40 minutes from work). It's quite basic, and it reminds me of the hoiuse I had in the second year at Nottingham. So, make of that what you will... It's nice having my own room and my housemates aren't a bad bunch. And I like being able to do what I want with the TV (i.e. watch Neighbours). One of my housemates stole a massive roadwork sign last night, which can only be a good thing.
In general, I like Brisbane loads and loads and I'm sure I'll be back here sometime in the New Year.
So, I'm going to stay here for another three weeks then pop down to Sydney for a while to meet up with Sister Lyttle and Brother Lyttle for what will be undoubtedly an emotional family reunion. And after that, I shall be free and easy. I have 6 months and one day left in Australia - I rebooked my return flight for April 2 next year, on the last flight out before my visa expires. No doubt I'll see you all down the pub on April 3, where I shall pass out through jet lag and drinking too much disgusting Stella. Not looking forward to going back to British beers.
I appreciate that this hasn't been a thrilling update, but so long as I'm happy, safe, getting drunk every now and then and not completely impoverished, I'm sure you'll not be too disappointed.
Time to enjoy Brisbane some more. Adios.
