Hi from sunny (mostly) South Carolina where have we been of late? Well we have furthered south in pursuit of Myrtle Beach (think Torremolinos) Could not really see what all the fuss was about when they have so many miles of perfect deserted coastline. Picked up the Harley and decided on an inland route exploring the back lanes, sleepy towns and infact some almost ghost towns. Forest, lakes, rivers, small rural communities and farming land prevail. Very friendly southern hospitality and the Harley gets approval. The bike is great on the open road, which most of our riding is, but lift the temperature to the 90's and put it in a town and it handles somewhat reminiscent of a tractor. I say this as I am 'fresh' from one of those melting experiences, with high humidity, shimmering asphalt and sitting astride a maching kicking off some serious heat we dripped into this hotel looking like spanish moss itself! Mostly however it is a great experience taking back roads and finding little gems. We are doing an inland circuit which has kept us East of Asheville and South of Charlotte and most of the time there is virtually no traffic (remember that?!) Beth is pleased with her Queen seat, and as I made the mistake of bringing our communication link with us, is directing me with great authority, I have been good though and have only pulled the plug once! Bending back round to the coast now. The States do do their natural heritage stuff well with protected swamp land and ancient forests well protected which makes for treats all over the place. Although I have not partaken of late, the fishing here is very impressive, particularly the catfish. One lady pulled about 25 out of Lake Marion in one night - ranging 8lbs - 40lbs they are an enjoyed delicasy here. Got a photo of some of the haul which hopefully we can load at the start of next week.
