Soo we've spent the last few days seriously chillin. Decided we were a little travel weary and deserved a few days in one place to prepare for the Harley! We arrived in the Outer Banks, North Carolina and it was like heaven (for sunbathers and fishermen alike) so we rented a beach house for the week. It was lovely to stop, cook properly and generally laze around without consulting a map for a few days. It is a bird watchers paradise so we decided to join in and set off around North Pond (a nature reserve) at dusk armed with binocculars and covered in insect repellent. Now, Mark is not an avid bird watcher and quickly began to display the initial signs of boredom UNTIL we bumped into Gloria, a blond from California with a passion for birdwatching. Mark is now an expert on the Blue Heron and Snowy Egret and can mimic the mating call of a small Sanderling a treat.
We spent happy days on the deserted beaches and Mark fished and fished until he trod on, what we later discovered was a large Ray. He was knocked clean off his feet and got a good wack or two. Very unnerving and he continues to insist that it was actually a Great White, and he fought it off with his bare hands!
We are crawling along the beautiful Coastline of Carolina and it is really lovely. The weather is seriously hot hot 95-100. Are spending the day in Wilmington today, a great little town, very quaint and arty with some cute shops.
Mark was set lose for 10mins and came back with a flippin Harmonica (God help me) It could be separate rooms from here on in.
Could only upload a few photos this time, more later. Also any e-mails sent through the blog are not getting through so just use the 'message board' or normal e-mail.
More soon. Beth and Mark x
