Day two in San Fran and did someone say Jet Lag? Ugh! We were suffering so badly it was a miracle we could even get out of bed at all! We also had some serious sunburn to contend with after failing to realise that we would even manage to get burnt through all the fog the day before!
Anyway we finally pepped ourselves up to go for a walk and for those who have been to San Fran before you know how easily a short walk can turn into a major uphill battle. So we set out from our hotel to find the famous Lombard Street and to see if maybe today we would have a clearer view of the Golden Gate Bridge. After climbing up a hill that is possibly best described as looking like this / we finally got to the top of Lombard street (the street is famous as it has 8 hairpin turns and is up there with the worlds most crookedest streets) only to realise that the best pictures are actually taken from the bottom of the curves!! So we walked down the bottom of the curves to take a few pics and then headed back down to fishermans wharf for lunch and to meet up with Melina again.
Now I dont think Mark mentioned this in the last blog update, but one thing we noticed about San Fran is the size of the seagulls! they are MASSIVE! They would be three times the size of our puney little seagulls back home! They're pretty much as big as a cat! I think Mark got a pic of one so we will upload it so you can see what I am going on about!
After our massive morning walk and the fact that it happened to be around lunch time and the fact that Mark is always hungry, we stopped for lunch with Melina who took us to Boudin Sourdough Bakery and Cafe, famous for making traditional sourdough breads, which we had the opportunity to see them making onsite and also see all the crazy creations, like life size turtles, crabs and even a crocodile out of the sourdough bread. After a great lunch and realising that the fog was worse than the day before (we couldnt even see Alcatraz clearly) we caught the bus back through the city and picked up our car for the next leg of our journey, a Dodge Charger which Mark has mixed emotions about getting.
We then packed up all our stuff and drove Melina back to her house and hung out for a bit, playing with her crazy little Pomeranium dog, who has a thing for licking everything in excess, even the couch! After chilling out for a bit it was time for us to farwell Melina and San Francisco so we could hit the frog and toad on our way to our first destination on Highway 1, Santa Cruz.
But first a quick stop at Alamo Square to check out the little cute terrace houses.. Then on to Santa Cruz.
