Our last full day of vacation gets off to a rousing start at about 8:30am. We have decided to just do the standard tourist bus around Majorca and have no set time to leave the ship.
We leave about 10:30am and walk to the dock to wait for the tourist bus. It's the standard red open top double decker that exists in every major city nowadays. We can't fit onto the first bus that comes so we decided to wait for the next one. In most normal places this would involve wating about 15 minutes but, not here. After about an hour (and one more full bus not being able to fit us) we finally get on.
I'm expecting to be able to sit on the first level (out of the sun) in the air conditioning while Beth goes up top in the sun and heat. It turns out that the upstairs actually has a breeze while the down stairs has no air conditioning. I still don't want to sit in the sun so, I tough it out in the stagnant heat.
The entire loop around the island takes about an hour. It is really nothing special. There is your usually shopping strip, flea market and obligatory castle/fort. We don't even get off the bus; we just listen to the narrative and watch from the window. Part of the reason is that we are afraid of not being able to get back on another bus. At each stop there is a line of people waiting to get on and the bus is almost full (so in turn, can only fit a few new people at each stop.) We figure if we get off we may never get back on.
When we hit the stop at the ship we think (for a minute) about staying on and going back to the shopping district to walk around a little and, maybe, see if the Spanish Gelato is as good as the Italian Gelato. We think better of it, realize there is ice cream on the ship, and get off.
Back on the ship we realize that we really need to pack and get ready to go home. After arranging for shore transfers to the airport we decide to pack in the afternoon so we can have a nice dinner and go see Howl at the Moon again. Packing to leave is really easy; two suitcases of dirty laundry and one of clean. 1/2 hour and we are done. Nap time!!!
Dinner is at Shanghai's (the chinese restaurant.) It is actually very good. Spare Ribs, Chicken in Oyster Sauce, Corn Soup...... Yum Yum. We're hungry a 1/2 hour later but, it was good while we ate it.
Unfortunately Howl at the Moon is no where near as good tonight. They sound just as good but, the room is empty. We guess that most people are packing to leave in the morning. This is the type of show that feeds off of the audience and when the room fits 250 and has 25 it doesn't work. We stay for about 45 minutes and try to sneak away (we actually feel bad leaving.)
Time for bed. A long day home tomorrow.
