The tennis is over, Rafael Nadal just lost the final to Stanislas Wawrinka. For me a bit of an anti-climax, as I have never really been a Stan fan, and most likely won't ever be. But well, another part of my trip is over and it makes me melancholic and a bit sad. I have had such a wonderful time again in Melbourne, and I will miss my Australian home badly. Don't think next year is another option, so hopefully some other year. Especially the days that my favourites were there, and to see them practice and play, or have some time to talk to them, I'll never forget those precious moments. <3 You might not understand, but it really does mean a lot to me.
After thursday (when Mahut/Llodra lost their match) I was devastated and had no idea what to do. I ended up going friday to Brighton beach, which is half an hour from Melbourne by train. Being at the sea always makes me feel better and I spent some nice hours in the sun.
Saturday I went in the train again, this time to Upper ferntree Gully, which is at the foot of the Dandenong ranges, a national park not far from Melbourne. I got myself a map and did a four hour walk over the mountains, through the bush. Most of the trip it was just me, mysef and my thoughts, an excellent way to escape the world for a bit. I finished the day in the Dandenong ranges with a visit to Sky high, a restaurant with fantastic views over the area. In the distance you can see Melbourne, which is 35 kilometers away.
Today brought me a free tour through Melbourne. Twice a day you can join a walking tour through the city, learning about the Melbourne history and seeing some places you might not see on your own. It's fun to be walking around with an international group and the guide was a very entertaining guy too. In the afternoon I joined Tess for a drive, before watching the Australian Open final on the big screen. Shame for the result, I am glad we didn't end up finding tickets. Imagine if we would have paid almost 400 dollars to see Rafa lose....
Still, despite all those nice things, I still haven't completely erased the mind yet from last thursday. So hopefully tomorrow will help me in that case. I'll join a group in the morning on a daytour through the Yarra valley. We'll visit four wineries, and will taste their wines and enjoy the scenic valley of the Yarra river. I can't wait to do that. I wanted last year a winery tour in Sydney but ran out of time So tomorrow it will be now. I'll drink a red one in honour of two champions. ;)
