Somehow I made it to New Zealand in the last few days. I left sunday evening for Abu Dhabi, a city that I can't image to ever visit if it wasn't to change planes. All I saw out of the window was the grey color of sand, lots and lots of sand. When we came closer I did see some palm trees and other green, but my first impression was grey.
I had some time to kill here so strolled the shops and treated myself on a big breakfast, you never know what you get offered in a the plane after all. Gotta say that my chicken, mashed potato and red cabbage were nice in the first flight. My second flight brought me from Abu Dhabi to Sydney, with the original arrival of 7.15 am. Somewhere in the more than 10.000 km we were delayed, so the time of landing was around 7.40. I got a few hours of sleep, because I remember there was a hot snack waiting for me, and I can't remember I have seen the people handing out them or eating them. ;)
My connection to New Zealand wouldn't be too hard, I thought. But because of the delay, many people needed a flight to Wellington, leaving at 8.20. Mine was for Auckland, leavng 20 minutes later. It's a bit stressful in the early morning, if you see time passing by, and it's less than an hour till departure of your flight... Haha, but I got my ticket, again a window seat because I enjoy being sticked to a window with my nose. Air New Zealand is awesome. They advertise themselves as the aircompany of Middle earth. The instruction video is completely animated movie, with persons from the Lord of the Rings films. It's hilarious! :-)
Finally, after about 29 hours of travellling, I was on ground again, on the other side of the world. 2.45 pm local time yesterday. I know that hurrying doesn't make sence, with the douane stuff. They want to know everything you carry, glad I was safe with my chocolate and roasted peanuts. With a bus to the city and a short walk to my hostel, with arrival at 4.30 pm. Yes, finally, I am settled in New Zealand. Now let the adventure get started!
Before you might ask, wouldn't you go to the tennis yesterday? Oh yes I did, I stayed till it started raining, and finally, around 10 pm the jetlag hit me hard. I went to bed at 11, had a wake up at 4.40, but had another our of sleep before getting up. So I feel pretty good at the moment, just adding some more pics now and then off I am on a trip to the Bay of Islands. It's the most wonderful feeling in the world, preparing a trip, looking forward for months and finally doing it.
Talk later my friends, and thanks for reading. ;)
