MONDAY 07.09.09 - DAY 15 NEWPORT
Headed to the OC today, now this is more my kind of place, well kept, clean, affluent area. Palm Trees stretch as far as the eye can see along the promande (Huntington Beach), harbours overflowing with expensive yaughts. The OC is actually what I imagined Santa Barbara and Santa Monica to be like. The OC lives up to its image of scenes portrayed of California by Hollywood films of stunning promandes, beautiful people, presdene beaches. Mmmmmm!
Stayed in NEWPORT beach, went to dinner in this sea food resturant, people were pulling up in their Yacht to dine for dinner. Newport is incased by two islands, comprising of big mansions; their back garden is the sea, their drive way a beach and their car a yacht!!!!
However we did not find ourselves on any yachts or in any big mansions, we ended up in a rough dive but having the best evening, meeting a great group of locals. We were on our way home and they dragged us in to the bar off the street, welcomed us with open arms and led us on a bar crawl of the entire Newport Wharf. We had a fantastic night, they were a great group of people genuine, funny and showed us an unforgetable evening. It was like being out with a group of friends at home, giggling and being silly. They were all trying to perfect the English accent (hilarious) and Pete was trying to perfect his California tongue (terrible; although he naturally thinks he is awesome!)
Tempted by shots of Chocolate Cake, which turned out to be vodka and tequila shots, and were not SHOTS at all. Whole glasses of Tequila and Vodka, argghhh my stomach is turning just thinking about it! Could not let the side down though and with English grit I drank and drank and drank and you will be glad to know was still standing!
But going to give the LIVER a rest for a few nights; well that it the intention, but we all know what happens to good intentions.
Drove through - Manhatten Beach, Hermosa, (small beach towns nice) Huntington Beach (rich area), Laguna Beach (pretty clean rich, reminded me of Carmel) Long Beach (bit of a getto, rough area, typically we got lost driving through there)
