From Hue we headed down the coast to a little place called Hoi An. It was quite a small town but it had a beach so I was looking forward to topping up my tan. We found a really nice hotel with a pool and went and met two of the girls that we had met in Hanoi who were leaving that day.
We went back to the hotel and Matt and Will arrived a little later, we had a pretty quiet night that night. The next day we decided to see some of the local sights and went to to the Chinese Bridge and a couple fo museums. Hoi An is famous for it's tailors so Sarah and Will wanted to get some clothes made and I'd seen a really nice coat so decided to get that made, and it was only $20!
That night we went out to the to one of the famous restaurants in Hoi An which a set menu of around 6 courses, some how I managed to get through them all!! We went for a walk along the river and some locals asked us we wanted a boat ride, we decided to take a little trip. As it was night time we couldn't really see anything but it was fun, the little boy on the boat took a shine to Will and kept trying to tickle him!
The next day we hired out motor bikes and rode out 40 km to an old ruin called My Son. When we were around 5 km away the boys bike broke down, we all stood around for a while trying to figure out what to do, the boys were pretty useless!! Some locals saw us and said to wheel the bike up to a nearby garage. The garage was really small, they figured out the problem was the petrol we had put in was dirty and needed to be drained. After about half an hour they managed to get it working again and we made it to My Son. The effort involved in getting there really wasn't worth it, it wasn't anything special! On the way back we were around 7 or 8 km from home when their bike broke down again. It happened several times and in the end they had to push it back, luckily our bike was fine!
We got up early the next morning to go to the local market, it was really entertaining, the women were fighting over the fish. We looked around for about an hour, went and got some breakfast and then went to the beach. It was the first time I'd been on the beach since being away, it was nice just to do nothing. That night we went to a beach party, we had quite a lot to drink and decided to stay up and watch the sun rise on the beach.
Needless to say after so little sleep and so much alcohol we didn't feel like doing much the next day. We had to check out of the hotel at 12 as we were leaving that day so we managed to get a couple of hours sleep before packing and leaving.
Sarah was going back to Hanoi to go to Northern Vietnam and do some trekking and I was heading down to Nha Trang with the Aussie boys. Sarah left in the afternoon and I was really sad to see her go. We wasted a couple of hours by the pool before getting on the overnight bus. The bus was quite old and had to be push started! Every time we stopped for food or the toilet the engine had to be left running.
