After a pleasant 5 hour train journey from Delhi we arrived in Jaipur, as usual waiting by the train were lots of tuk tuk drivers trying to get our attention, guess this is what it feels like to be famous lol.
Anoushaka, myself, our 2 backpacks and Daniel who we met on the train squeezed into his tuk tuk and he took us to our hotel The Pearl Palace, lovely little hotel. Daniel only had a few hours in Jaipur so a quick sightseeing tour was arranged within the space of about 5mins. The tuk tuk driver said he would come back with a better vehicle and he returned with his friend who owned a car. If this happened at home you probably wouldnt have got in the car but it seems like the done thing to do while travelling, you just go with the flow.
We agreed a price then went to various places including the Temple of the Sun God aka Monkey Temple (this was a temple at the top of a hill, all along the way up there was monkeys hence the name). This had stunning views of the "Pink City" and yes the city really does look like its been built with pink stone. After doing the touristy thing we went for food the tuk tuk driver and his friend came with us. We also had a few drinks with them but as everywhere only seemed to sell beer one of the guys disappeared and then came back with 2 glasses of vodka for me! no idea where he got it from and I didnt ask lol.
The next day was more sight seeing, have seen that much I cant actually remember many of the names of the places I visited but can remember Hawa Mahal built in 1799!, Later in the day the 2 guys who were showing us round started with the "cheese and balls" saying how beautiful we are and how we are very very good friend now, you come and see my fathers shop please, please my father be very happy to see such beautiful women in his shop (this is something you get used to to try and get you into the shops) By this point we were very getting tired and bored of all of the talk so we made our excuses and came back to the hotel. Jaipur is a nice city, although driving round the back streets made interesting/intriging viewing, lots of cows pigs etc just wondering around and rummaging amongst the rubbish by the side of road. I still find it strange seeing cows just wondering the streets and that cars and people move out of the way of the cows like they own the road. Its quite strange when your standing having a conversation with someone by side of the road and a cow comes past, has a little stare at you then wonders on by.
Going to see an astrologer today, he was on a Channel 4 documentry a while ago.......hope he says something good! I got given a 10 year booklet and what is briefly expected to happen. The main things the astologer told me was that i will start a relationship june 2011 and that i should be a social worker. I asked about my health and if anything was going to get worse or improve (I was meaning my coeliac disease) his response was that I have some stomach problems that they wont disappear but will not get worse and I will learn to live with it. He also mentioned that I may have some other problem, nothing too serious but that it might get slightly worse before being ok (update-since returning from my trip my eyesight in right eye worsened, I had a benign tumour, catarract and returning scar tissue which was all removed)
We then tried to decide where we were going to go next, we wanted to go to Varanasi but as it very near to the Diwali festival all of the trains were already full booked and it was to far away to travel by coach. We decided to get a sleeper bus to Agra and booked the executive sleeper and was garaunteed it was a nice bus......we will see!
