We finally made it to the Gilis! Kenny and I had a fun time in the Kuta/Legian area of Bali, but by the second day, we were ready to leave. We packed our bags and after an hours wait, we made our way to Padang Bai via Ubud.
Padang Bai is so much smaller than Kuta, and I really needed that! It was so much more peaceful. In the afternoon, we explored a secret blue lagoon, which would have been perfect for snorkeling, had we not arrived so late in the afternoon.
For dinner, the five of us (Tyler, Neil, Blake, Kenny and I) had an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet! It only cost us about $7 and included a free margarita if you were one of the first 10 people to arrive. As it turns out, not many people came, and we all enjoyed the free margs. They had mahi-mahi, chicken, tuna, salads, and fresh vegetables. All of us were stuffed.
Wednesday, we foolishy decided to take a slow boat to the Gili Islands. We should have paid a little more and gotten there quicker. In the end, it took from 8:30 am to about 6 pm to go what seems like such a short distance. Made the 2 hour fast boat ride look really good to us! Guess we'll know for next time...
but our sour moods didn't last long once we stepped off our boat into the turquoise blue water and onto pefect white sand while the sun was setting. The island wasn't what I'd pictured at all- it's so much better. There's no paved roads, which means no cars. Instead, everyone takes a donkey cart if they have to go far. But the island is so small that we've just been able to walk everywhere.
Our island is one of three, and it's called the "Party Island" becuase there's a wide variety of beachfront restaurants and bars. Everything quiets down in the evening nicely though.
For our first dinner on Gili T last evening, we decided on grilled seafood. We all had tuna steaks and some of us had royal prawns- everything was delicious and cooked to order. The best part was being able to put our toes in the sand while we ate :)
We spent today with our two new girl friends from Denmark getting some sun and exploring the island. Even though we all lathered on the sunscreen, we got more sun than we would have liked. Kenny and I took an afternoon walk around the whole island and got some food along the way. Including swimming time, it took about 3 hours. Like I said, the islands are quite small!
Tomorrow, our group of 7 is thinking about checking out Gili Meno and hopefully doing some snorkeling to see turtles. It should be fantastic. I know I'm the only one who never wants to leave this beautiful paradise!!
