After looking for ages on the web for places to go (no public transport at all!) we settled for 2 nights with a couch surfer in Santa Cruz. We don't really know anything about Santa Cruz just that it's a little beach town.
Our couch surfer seems ok. He is a marine biologist and makes his own beer! He is really into making his beer, he even grows his own hops for it but he didn't have a batch of it when we were there so we didn't get to try any. On our first night there we sat in getting to know Warren a bit, he gave us a bit of advice about the town (mainly that there were a s*** load of bums and that there was a lot of pot around the town). He then took us out to the non touristy side of town. We went down to a nice beach which all the locals go to and showed us where about the guy who made wet suits (owner of O'Niell company) lived.
Next day Warren had to work and wasn't really keen on us being in his house alone so we had the full day out. We headed down town and went to a library as we had no where to go the next day! After spending ages looking we finally decided on 3 nights in San Jose, have no idea what's there but we found a cheap private room so it will be nice to have some space from strangers!
After we had booked that we went down to the boardwalk. It totally reminded us of back home at TT week. The whole prom had fair ground rides and they had the same ones that we have. They even had the eggshells that we used to have when the fair was up Nobles!
After we had spent a while at the fair we walked along the massive pier they have that is full of bars and restaurants.
When we were near the end of the pier Jodie noticed something in the bay and realised that it was groups of wild dolphins leaping out of the water. There were loads of them, about 15 in total. As we were there watching them we heard some kind of barking coming from below us. We walked down the piers steps to find about 20 sealions swimming around and jumping up on the pier. There was a fence protecting them but they were right on the other side next to us. I was tempted to stroke one but wasn't sure if they would bite or not! When we were taking photos of them I must have got too close to one of them because one of the b******s went for me! I full on shat myself!
After dinner we headed back to Warrens to get ready for leaving tomorrow. We spent the night sat up chatting to Warren again.
Santa Cruz has been alright, not much here but were now just hitting places on the coast so we don't have to spend too long in L.A and San Diego. Next up is San Jose which apparently isn't much but at least we will have a room to chill in and a tele to watch!
