We have another little town to stop at before heading to LA for a few days.
We have been told that Salinas is a good little town so decide to stop here so we can split up the coach journey a little bit.
Our hostel that were staying in describes itself as a hostel and a hotel. We get a private room for cheap but have a shared bathroom. When we get there the check in guy tries to rip us off. We always use the same websites to book the hostels and when we book it it takes a 10% deposit off the total price in case we don't show up. The check in guy was adament that the 10% charge we had already paid was to pay the website but I wasn't having that considering we have an email saying that we have paid a 2 dollar charge to the website and the rest of it is off the total price and the fact that we have been using this website for 2 months now and not once have we had to pay that much of a charge to the website. After a bit of arguing and explaining that he was wrong he finally backs down and we pay what we are suppose to. One thing we have noticed is that as soon as they realise your a traveller or a tourist they fully try to rip you off.
Our room is horrible, when we walk in it smells like someone has died in there. The walls have staines all down them and the carpet looks like it hasn't been replaced in the 100 years since the building was built. The bed looks clean though so at least that's something!
That night we are lying in bed watching a movie when I tried to turn over or something and somehow manage to knock my glasses off my head on to the floor. I then somehow manage to knock the tv remote off the bed and typical of my luck the remote lands on my glasses and cracks one of the lenses in two right down the middle! Fuming is an understatement!
Next day we have a walk round and check out the town and hope to find an opticians as well. There is not much to do here but the town is really nice. There are a lot of closed shops though so it looks like it has been hit hard by the recession. We found an opticians that is not too far away on Google earth so head down that way. After about an hours walk we arrive where it says the opticians is to find a housing estate and absolutely no sign of any shops never mind an opticians! We walk down there main street to see what is here and when we reach the end we find the opticians we have been looking for, only problem is though is that it's shut Saturday and Sunday! Looks like I have no glasses until we get to San Diego!
We continue down to the end of the road and come to the end of the town. The whole town is surrounded by fields and mountains. The scenery is amazing and the mountains are all green and gold, they look awesome.
As there isn't much to do here we just head to a micro brewery and try a couple of their pints and have lunch. We spend a while walking round and getting to see the place but are mostly just relaxing in our hostel.
We haven't really taken any pictures or done much in the last few days. It's been nice just relaxing and seeing the coast of California but you can only see small places for so long. Were heading to LA tomorrow, not really looking forward to it as we haven't heard one good word about it and have found out that it is referred to as the sewer of California but at least we will have things to do and see all day. I'm hoping to get a part as Danny DeVito's body double in Hollywood!
