So after having no air con in the hottest heatwave for over 50 years were quite lookin forward to getting up to Atlantic City for a private cool motel room, all we have to do is get through a 4 hour bus trip which we thought should be ok.
We were wrong! Badly!
After saying our goodbyes to Grace our Aussie friend we follow some crazy little Chinese woman on to the coach (she was totally nuts, she spent half the time waiting for the coach by grabbing handfuls of napkins from the cafe and I mean handfuls, she filled up half of her luggage with the things! She then spent the other half of the waiting time making sure that she was first in line and that no one would beat her to the coach.)
The journey started off ok but when we got to a stop just outside Washington a disabled man got on. As he couldn't really walk he needed the designated disabled seat which the crazy little Chinese woman was sat in. When she was asked to move she kind of flew into a mini rage and started arguing with the disabled man and refused to move. The driver then got involved telling the crazy biatch that she had to move as there were about 15 other free normal seats on the coach. The crazy assed woman still put up a fight an refused to budge, I actually thought it was going to turn into a fist fight. After a while the crazy Chinese woman gave up and spent the rest of the trip moving from seat to seat trying to find one as good as her beloved front seat.
After all this calmed down we arrived at the next stop. As we were waiting there a young girl ahead of us suddenly broke down in floods of tears and ran off the coach and collapsed in a heap on the floor. When they got her back on we found out that she was heading to Atlantic City to see her Dad in hospital but sadly she didn't make it in time and he died when we were about an hour away. Why whoever told her didn't just wait till she got off the coach and to the hospital I don't know.
To top it all off we also had some loud Spanish guy behind us on the coach shouting into his mobile for pretty much the entire trip! It was possibly the longest 4 hours we have ever had to do.
So after the nightmare journey we finally arrive and as neither of us had stayed in a motel before and had seen a lot of horrors take place in them we were quite worried about what we would find. It turned out to be really nice, just as good as any hotel room. We quickly get settled in and head out to see where about everything is. We discover that our motel is about a 30 second walk to the beach and right opposite the Tropicana.
As it was quite late we just headed over to the Tropicana to check that out and get something to eat. Inside it's the lay out is pretty much the same as the Vegas hotels, first thing you see is the casino which are the same as the Vegas one's (except more expensive!) and everything else is kind of scattered around the casino. The Tropicana is really nice but there really isn't that much to do there apart from gamble and shop. We found a bar called 'a damn good sports bar' and headed there for a pint and some food. I asked for a big beer of Bud and got quite a shock when they bought out a huge 40oz bottle (about 3 pints) safe to say I will be back here!
Next day we venture down the boardwalk to check out what other casinos there are. The boardwalk and beach is really nice and seems safe enough but the rest of the place seems like a bit of a s*** tip. Were a bit dissappointed with the casinos, didn't really expect it to be like Vegas but we expected something a little better. All the buildings are the same colour, the signs are all the same colour and everything looks a bit drab. The only themed building is Bally's which is a old style wild west building, even Ceasers doesn't have much to it.
We start going through all the casinos to see what each of them have but they are pretty much all the same. Ceasers is the only one that offers something different to shops and a casino as they have a fountain and light show every hour which was really good. We walk back to the Tropicana for a bit of a flutter and a few more big beers feeling quite dissappointed with what Atlantic City has to offer.
We are fully loving the private room at the minute, able to lie in without people being loud and waking us up early every morning is quite good! So after we lie in to about 12 we get up to head out. We are having a day apart as too much time together will drive us both crazy! I get $100 out and head over to my favourite bar for another big bottle (works out cheaper than quids!) and then a flutter on the roulette tables.
About 40 minutes later I head back to the Motel room after losing all the money I had on me! Not one thing came in, typical!
Later on in the day me and Jodie met back up, she spent the day going up and down the beach and taking in the sights, think that would have been a better idea than mine! We then headed to a beach bar that was voted one of the top 21 sexiest beach bars in the world and had a few drinks here.
On our last day we couldn't really decide what we wanted to do so we just sat and chilled in the room watching tv pretty much all day! I didn't really want to gamble anymore as Vegas is a lot better and neither of us wanted to shop as it means more crap to carry! At tea time we finally ventured outside and went for some food and more big beers, got a little tiddly then headed back to the room!
We are now taking the Greyhound to Philadelphia. Atlantic City has been a bit of a dissappointment, the best thing about it has been having a tv and and a private shower, it's not a patch on Vegas but then what is!
